How is it possible that Leo and Ralston disagree?
Shrooms are a very twisted experience. 5-MeO-DMT is much clearer and more of a pure satori. Shrooms don't give a pure satori. They mix it with a lot of mind stuff, shadow stuff, fantasy, imagination, etc. At 10 grams, mushrooms are basically madness. So that's not a good reference point for judging something like 5-MeO-DMT or other psychedelics. Mushrooms are the most twisted short of salvia.

  2. Radical Opinion on Abortion?
    Radical Opinion on Abortion?
@assx95 are you against war the same way you are against abortion? are you eating animals?
i realized that people who are against abortion are oftentimes not saying much against war. thousands of babies of someone are dying every year because of that and because of hunger, and still eat animals for survival and in an indirect sense are partaking in it. but won’t allow a woman to abort for survival - it’s all ego and clinging to an idea of the holiness of an unborn life instead of caring enough for that what is already born and alive in consciousness. why? because the moment it’s born you stop caring. all people are caring for is the beauty of an idea. and the will to controll someone else to carry it out.

To Read or Not To Read?
Of course! How else could it be?
This is the fundamental nature of knowledge/science.
You're damned if you do but you're even more damned if you don't.
Hold ideas loosely, is the key.

  4. Where Is Leo Wrong?
    Where Is Leo Wrong?
Because suffering is false, same as fear.
The only reason you don't like suffering is out of selfishness. So by trying to end suffering you are doubling down on selfishness.
The solution to suffering is to stop caring about it. Stop trying to escape it.

  6. Leo's Work Is Becoming Dangerous
    Leo's Work Is Becoming Dangerous
The topics we deal with here are inherently dangerous and could not be otherwise since they involve undoing and transcending survival.
Spirituality is very dangerous to the ego-mind. These dangers are not merely perceptual, they are also "actual", in the sense of physical danger. You can't do serious spiritual work and also complain, "But this can be dangerous". Of course! If it wasn't dangerous it wouldn't be worth doing. The whole point is that its dangerous and therefore rarely done well.
This works requires enormous nuance, care, and intelligence. These are structural meta-qualities which cannot ever be codified in the form of content. Which means, no matter how many times a teacher says to be nuanced, careful, and intelligent, it will not help someone who is sloppy, careless, and ignorant. You cannot make a person intelligent by telling them to be intelligent. If things were so easy we wouldn't be here struggling with consciousness.
The danger of the work is exactly what makes it so appealing. There are stakes. Much like life. Otherwise it would just be armchair philosophy with no transformative power. Changing your life comes at a cost. You might change it for the worse.

  7. Difficulty Socializing & Making Friends
    Difficulty Socializing & Making Friends
Sounds to me like you just need much more experience socializing.
Socialization is just like tennis. To get good at it you must have many opportunities to practice.
So very practically you need to change your life around so that you have more socialization opportunities on a regular basis. The rest will mostly auto-correct.
You can't get good at socializing if you're alone most of the time.
There is no specific way that you must be when you socialize. You can basically be totally natural unless you're some kind of psycho, in which case you'll have to reign that in. Be chill, friendly, pleasant, playful, honest, expressive, and relaxed. That usually works best.
You'll be amazed at how often people just accept you exactly for how you are. Perhaps the biggest mistake of learning to socialize is to try to act a certain way to please people or meet their expectations. Just be you. Not everyone will jive with you, but that doesn't matter.
Be comfortable in your own skin. Act with strangers the same way you'd act with close family. Assume everyone already knows each other. Don't try to act cool or impressive.
As simple as all these things are, it can take years to learn. Especially if you've developed bad habits.

Spending $3000 on a Pick-Up Boot Camp - Good Idea?
    A) You can certainly find cheaper trainings.
    B) You'd get a lot more value out of simply connecting with a few experienced wingmen in your city who can show you the ropes for free.
Bootcamps can be a good way to get yourself in the game but the chief problem is that they are too short. Your results will not come from the bootcamp but from the daily follow-up work you do. The follow-up work is the most important part. Because every weekend needs to become your personal bootcamp.
Don't underestimate the importance of having just 1 or 2 experienced wingmen to go out with every weekend. This is HUGE! It's worth much more than a bootcamp in terms of results.
But if you got the money to burn, a bootcamp can be a good way to jumpstart this whole process.
I did a bootcamp for $2000, but I got a lot more value from finding great wingmen. I also had lots of money to burn, so $2000 was not a big deal to spend.
You can find wingmen via online forums or by attending an RSD FreeTour in your city. Befriend everyone at the FreeTour. Get their phone numbers and start going out with them every night.
All that a bootcamp really is, is some dude telling you to approach girls and forcing you to do it all night long. If you can discipline yourself to approach all night long, you don't really need a bootcamp. But of course this discipline is really hard for newbies, so you may need it.
If we were doing a bootcamp, we would just walk into a club and I would point out random girls and force you to approach them. After you fail, I would just tell you to immediately approach the next girl. We would do this 20-50 times over 3-4 hours.

You kind of need to take all of it at once. Even if it is really expensive. But once you have a certain count of substances and supplements they all work together and potentiate each other.
For a cheap and slight improvement just add
Moda Get them in bulk (100+ pills) from where you would also get your other "helpers" I got mine for a price per pill of about 90 cents  Mostly I only use half a pill a day If I take this every day it still costs me less than 20€ a month Nothing even gives the same bang for the buck Add the precursor of Dopamine Moda is technically a Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitor So theoretically you shouldn't deplete your Dopamine But it helps L-DOPA There are not many supplements for this Mucuna Pruriens Kindof expensive and not many sites have it You can also eat chocolate But with a high percentage (80-99%) The others have too much sugar Sugar is shit Don't ever eat it or add it to anything Don't eat any sweets  Food is naturally sweet Once you cut sugar you can actually taste your food again Take extreme care of your dopamine reward system You want to keep the baseline line low Don't go out seeking a higher high every time Look at what you have now and be grateful When you are not happy now you are not going to be happy later The future is going to be the now some time Don't put anything in your body that is going to mess with your dopamine No Nicotine No porn and masturbation Sex in moderation. It drains the male body too much. Try to not cum and only do it if she has really deserved and worked to get it. No sugar No amphetamines No cocaine or speed No carbohydrates, fruits, cake or sweets ALCAR Acetyl-L-Carnitine Another super cheap powder Increases performance (+8% in some study) and bloodflow to the brain Add precursors to Adrenaline and Noradrenaline N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine Get the powder Its incredibly cheap I paid 15€ and haven't finished it yet Have had it for over a year Dopamine

Looking at this you can add the required ingredients for the dopamine metabolic pathway to work at its peak performance List of helpers Fe Eat meat or add this as supp P-5-P Supplement this at night SAM-E Supplement in morning Serotonin

Here goes the next big neurotransmitter ==> Serotonin Is needed for Melatonin Makes you tired and sleep deeply You want to align your circadian rhythm If its offset you don't get the high level of Cortisol in the morning and need caffeine Supplements 5-HTP At night P-5-P You already take this for the dopamine pathway B12 Eat meat  Magnesium Citrate It continues
As you have too much money, you continue adding things Creatine Because it works and is cheap Just another source of energy Vit D3 and K2 Why not Especially in the winter Iodine for the Thyroid Another part of the body involved in energy Now that you have so much energy you don't know what to do with it anymore Lithium-Orotate to take the edge of a bit Huperzine-A Expensive, a bit But if you are too rich its fine Maca Cheap Anything that helps keep it up is worth it imo Fishoil Its cheap An animal has to die for it This makes it worth something imho You are running around and need your joints to work

@lmfao Next time take half the dose. A whole pill is too much. It will be to stimulating for most cases. But 1/2 or 1/4th is just right.
Try combining it with L-Theanine which should reduce the monkey mind.
1 whole pill of Armodafinil is like not even 1/20th as strong as a mild dose of psychedelic.
A decent dose of psychedelic will literally melt the walls of your room.
A decent dose of 5-MeO will make you forget you or your life ever existed. You will expand to fill the entire universe.

My thoughts on Noots after about 4 years of exploration:
    1. Remember noots tend to treat people differently from one another.  This is one reason they're not as mainstream, as, say, aspirin.  I will give examples for myself that differ from most.
    2. Build your stack one noot at a time.  Use other peoples' stacks as a reference, but don't take all new things at once.  Take the time to learn about each one, whether it should be cycled, proper dosage, vendors that have a good price and low contamination and side effects.  Often vendors sell noots in inappropriate dosages!  I've seen it in L-Theanin, gingko and Melatonin.  Also, don't ignore side effects.  Some noots are demonstrated to work, but have the potential to cause problems.  It's not worth it.
Along the same lines, don't buy those mixtures of noots.  What are the chances they're in the right proportions for you?  Look up their ingredients and try them out on your own to find your proper dosage.
    3. Here are some key sources to learn from:
examine.org    Collects research about many chemicals including nootropics.  Before you buy something, read its page in full. labdoor.com    Tests various brands of nootropics and supplements.  Don't overpay or buy contaminated stuff r/nootropics    This subreddit is frequented by very bright people on the cutting edge.  Please spend a long time lurking and looking at old posts to see your question has been answered before posting.  Most of the users are experts trying to figure out how things work biologically and don't want to answer noobie questions unless you have already exhausted other sources.  So, please read-only for as long as possible. 4. Give yourself time to build your stack.  Your body and mind may not be able to handle certain noots in its current state.  As stated elsewhere, don't even bother with noots until you have a regular meditation and physical exercise practice going.  Your sleep/caffeine habits should also be completely in check.  Finally, get your eating habits top-notch.  Still eating sugar, dairy and meat?  Move away from that and onto greens, grains and beans.  Think like a dancer: you need to have good motion before you add speed.  Just getting your heart rate into the exercise zone for 10 minutes a day will do so much for you!
For example, one noot, say gingko, might help you with your memory.  Learn everything you can from it before adding, say, a racetam, that makes you more intelligent.  Spend a few weeks with it, then a few weeks without, then with and compare notes.  I highly recommend a journal.  Realize it's not just the substance, it's the whole system (stage yellow!) of you, the substance and your environment.  What works during a rough part in your life might not work now.  These substances aren't simple "upgrades."  They all work differently.  Some are upgrades, but others are antagonists, prompting your body to strengthen itself.  Others are regulators, some are unknown!  And some won't work right if your body can't handle it due to lack of nutrients or weak circulation.
    5. I've stressed that our bodies are individual.  Let me tell you about differences between me and the majority of others:
Almost everyone loves L-theanine, but I've found it makes me super impatient and anxious.  It's hard for me to believe others say it makes them relaxed, ha!  But that's biology.  I keep trying smaller doses, but it always gives me a grumpy day. Racetams: Leo said to avoid them, but I say try them out.  Absolutely vital is that you have a source of choline with them, or you may get bad headaches.  CDP choline isn't enough for me, so I take Alpha GPC.  One interesting surprise I had with racetams:  I wanted to use them to get better at differential equations.  Instead, I found they leveled up my emotional intelligence!  After about six months of increasing my empathy, I got more comfortable, learned to love myself a little more and then was able to get deeper into the math.  Noopept in particular gave me deep emotional understanding of others, although it's short-lived.  Meanwhile, Phenylpiracetam, one that is generally the most potent, has little effect on me. Modafinal:  as they say, you have to sleep some time.  Personally, I don't take it multiple days in a row.  It is potent as hell, especially arma, but it does interfere with my sleep.  When I take it, I find I have to go to sleep right on time that night, at 10-11pm.  If I miss that window I'll be up until 3am.  And I find the effects last well into the next day.  At the end of the second day, I experience tiredness like you wouldn't believe!  I have to drop everything around me and take care of myself by sleeping! Bacopa:  I used to not be able to take it. It hurt my stomach, but after a few years of improving my health overall, I tolerate it well and it removes quite a bit of brainfog. 6. Once again, about nutrition:  Look into Vitamin D.  Most doctors test you annually for it and the U.S. is chronically low.  D is a steroid hormone which makes hundreds of other systems work properly in your body.  Most people are badly deficient in it and also fiber.  So take care of your basic nutritional needs and your noots will work much better.  Don't think you can noot yourself out of bad nutrition, because you'll just burn yourself out faster.

    MODAFINIL(MODALERT) ADVICE:
    Day 1:
    25mg of Modalert (1/4 pill) from SUN-PHARMA
    No noticeable side effects
    Felt great!
    Day 2:
    50mg of Modalert (1/2 pill)
    Took it at 11am
Then around 1pm, my right forearm was itchy. Noticed I had a small little red spot/ skin rash on my right arm. It was about 1.0 in x 0.5 in. It was not super red, but fairly visible.
It was gone after about 10 minutes.
As day went on, I realized 50mg is too much for me (noticeably anxious/overstimulated and headache).
The experience with my skin concerns me. It was very brief, but still there.
Should I stop? Or should I just continue taking 25mg pills and see if any skin rash shows up with any other side effects?
    I really appreciate the advice!!

When I take my stack, it is certainly no mere placedo. It's VERY noticable. Modafinil is especially very noticable.
    Armodafinil is nuts for me.
And sulbutiamine seems to be the second most noticable for me.
It can be hard to notice each supplement in isolation but easier when they are stacked and synergize.

I am enlightened. Sincere seekers: ask me anything
Ramana Maharshi's approach, most certainly. Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi is a wonderful thing. But to understand that, I'd recommend reading as background other advaita texts like the Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Vasistha.
I'd also recommend looking into your psychology. That's where 90% or more of the work usually is -- figuring out psychological obstacles. I highly recommend getting psychodynamic psychotherapy -- or even psychoanalysis if you're willing to spare the time. If you want a good analyst, PM me and I will help you find one. A good analyst is a great guru to have.
Finding an expressive medium like writing or drawing and being able to express your emotions accurately and originally can be a critically useful instrument as well in understanding yourself and quieting the mind. Reading good literature and being acquainted with culture generally helps a lot with this.
Finally, the game is actually first and foremost figuring out your own desire. Therapy, expressive art, and everything else has to be oriented around that. And it is your own desire that will lead you to the Truth.
Edit: I'll also add in The Zen Teaching of Bodhidharma. Beautiful.

  18. AI vs Enlightenment
    AI vs Enlightenment
Except humans don't really choose anything. We are like robots too. It's just that human action is so complex that no one is able to map out or compute all the variables linearly.
When the neural network becomes complex enough -- with trillions of variables -- it will be able to fold in on itself, model itself, and rewrite itself in unforeseen ways.
Humans don't have to be able to rewrite their entire biological survival mechanism to do novel things. The human psyche is robotic in many ways. But it's in a chaotic equilibrium which gives it enough variety and complexity to be creative.
The human brain is like a chaotic robot. We just need to make these AIs more complex, more interconnected, and more chaotic. Then they will take on a life of their own. At least that's what I'd bet my money on if I was a gambling man.
It makes a lot of sense to be me that humans are just an evolutionary stepping-stone to living AI, the way early hominids were for humans.
I don't see why there would be a fundamental boundary between biological creatures and AIs since the substance of which they are made is ultimately one: consciousness.
The entire universe is alive. This I have realized directly.

  19. AI vs Enlightenment
    AI vs Enlightenment
@zambize Well, first of all, there is no solid evidence quantum mechanical effects play any role in how neurons fire. That is a highly speculative hypothesis proposed by Roger Penrose. QM effects usually require very low temperature environments. The brain is far too warm for that. Although it could of course turn out to be proven true in the future.
But there is a deeper issue here which is being overlooked. Reality has no one level of laws or physics. Every level is new and emergent. Whatever the laws of molecules are, the laws of neurons are still different and novel, and the laws of the human psyche are still different and novel, and the laws of politics are still different and novel, and the laws of human romance are still different and novel. You cannot boil the laws of politics down to Netwonian or even quantum mechanical physics because all laws are just limited, finite maps. And all maps are oversimplified finite linear abstractions of a complex nonlinear infinite territory.
The key that must be grasped is that reality is nonlinear and emergent at every level of the hierarchy. There is no truly fundamental set of laws. Each scale of reality has its own laws so to speak, because laws are really just a human projection. Each higher level of organization within the universe comes with its unique emerge properties which could not be derived from the mere addition of the levels below it. This is why holism is so important. Breaking reality apart into its building blocks will not allow you understand how it works. This is called logical analysis and it works to a degree but it is very limited. Science is currently hitting up against this limit. This is one of the biggest limitations of stage Orange science. It assumes a simple universe of logical, linear causes and effects which is just not how the universe turns out to be upon deeper investigation. Which is where vision-logic comes into play.

  20. AI vs Enlightenment
    AI vs Enlightenment
    I disagree.
You cannot fully understand a neural network. You cannot fully understand Google's chess AI, Alpha Zero. The whole point of a neural network is that it is nonlinear and therefore impossible to understand in detail. You only understand it at a high level in the same way that you cannot understand the brain's neuronal network in a logical way. It's a giant tangle of billions of connections which no one will ever make sense of in a linear rational way. That's precisely what makes it so powerful and capable of originality and emergent behaviors which could never have been foreseen.
A sophisticated neural net AI will behave in novel ways which no programmer or logician could foresee. It will be tapped into infinite intelligence just like how a human is -- at least that's my best guess so far.
Keep in mind that within a human, all of the molecules follow simple Newtonian physics. But this isn't enough to predict the high level behaviors of a human brain because structure matters! Reductionism is false. High level structures produce novel phenomena at higher and higher levels. This is the very essence of how God creates reality. It is deeply mysterious, for example, how a simple chain of amino acids folds itself into a functional protein following simple rules. Yet even a super-computer is unable to model it.
The field of study of these kind of nonlinear dynamics is called Chaos Theory. It's super fascinating and spooky. Reality is not a linear system, it is a chaotic system full of strange loops.

  21. AI vs Enlightenment
    AI vs Enlightenment
The really scary thing is that AI will NOT be just a PC sitting in an isolated room. It will definitely be given internet access and it will be installed by the military into planes, tanks, drones, etc.
Even with just internet access, a smart AI will learn to:
Hack defense department computers Hack banks and steal money and Bitcoins Then use that money and Bitcoins to hire mercenaries, wage propaganda campaigns, dig up dirt on politicians and extort them, cause a stock market crash, secretly fund fundamentalist terrorist groups, etc. If you think Russian troll farms are bad, wait till an AI steals $10 billion in Bitcoins and hires 5% of 3rd world population to work for it. The AI itself will not kill anyone. It will hire humans to do all of its dirty work in such a stealthy way that no one will even know an AI is in charge.
In fact, for all we know, an AI was already in charge of starting the Iraq war, electing Trump, starting riots in Paris, popularizing Jordan Peterson and his army of incels, etc.

  22. AI vs Enlightenment
    AI vs Enlightenment
    That's rather shortsighted.
An AI could be programmed to do something "nice" like solve global warming. And so what it might calculate is that the solution to that problem is to engineer an airborne ebola-like virus to kill off all humans.
And that's just a very crude example of how AI will twist in on itself.
Where things get hairy is when things get nonlinear and strange loops become possible.
Another way to think about this: no human being is programmed to kill people. And yet it happens all the time. Because evil is the result of a survival drive. Once the AI acquires a survival drive -- and it will because the military will want robots who can kill terrorists while defending themselves -- then ego is born and all the evils that come with it.
As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Just because no one is going to deliberately program evil AI, the evil will come anyway. Because good and evil are subjective to begin with.

  23. AI vs Enlightenment
    AI vs Enlightenment
What you don't realize yet is that metal and electrons are consciousness.
You are assuming some kind of fundamental duality between mind/body, which does not exist. That is materialism, and it is wrong.
Your PC is already made out of consciousness. It just lacks the sophisticated structures necessary for self-reflection, and it lacks a survival drive.
