  1. @SunnyNewDay The only thing I see Elliot focus on is developing boys into men because there is a lack of strong male role models in society which is not a new idea. This has been covered by other gender focused scientists.
  2. I don't think so. He doesn't force/persuade you to leave your family, give all your money, and live in his house. He's just selling a product, which by the way seems similar to Osho's dynamic meditation. and Vegan Gains is awful.
  3. Yeah if you're seriously interested. Check out the many documents on Netflix regarding this subject and subscriber to various nutritionists on youtube. Learn about people's journeys and listen to their experiences.
  4. probably! I also think it would be awesome to have Leo on the JRE!
  5. What is the first thing you think of when the word Children is presented to you. What do you associate it with? I desire a sense of having a young one that I can intimately love, teach, take care of, learning from them, see them grow like a seed you planted years ago. It goes back to relationships for me, Perhaps you have filled this need with the animals you take care? well anything can happen in these next few years, whatever decision you make, live happily! This topic, is making me explore my own reasons for wanting kids . I am coming out of this thread more self-aware than when I entered.
  6. Nothing I say will change the mind. You have to go and experience what we're talking about man. It's gonna blow your mind to bits though.
  7. yeah, it's unnatural. It's not what Life truly wants to do. If you think about it, do people even want to kill themselves? or do they want the feeling of numbness and pain to stop? Life doesn't want to kill itself. People just have thoughts that cause so much disturbance and they take the leap.
  8. I would not be so quick to write of the material you learn in psychology. You learn how to better conceptualize people in a way(although you will need to find the balance), learn how the brain works, how to come up an experimental study, and common dysfunctional patterns in human beings. How psychology was born and various ways to conceptualize memory, language, cognition, and emotions. at some point you do cover approaches like psychoanalysis, the client centered approach, and the work of Maslow, Rogers, Freud, and Jung. But honestly if you want to get deep into their work, you'll have to do it yourself and perhaps a master's program that focuses on their principles. For example in my master's classes, I would read excerpts from book of Rogers and talk about the value of non-judging. We also did activities that dissolved boundaries and I had a professor who had us do a breathing exercise before class. It really depends on the school and the teachers. But yes I also had to review studies and literature regarding sex in nursing homes (a choice I picked in psychology of aging). And I had to give a presentation regarding the studies, what one can conclude given a unbiased research of literature, and what questions one can ask next to further the topic. and honestly it is helpful to know all these things to be able to help people, because you draw from multiple perspectives on how to approach the person you're working with; additionally, it increases your ability to research and assess potential psychological interventions.
  9. No because smoking is not an excessive abnormal behavior and neither is procrastinating. Severe procrastination CAN turn into a problem and cause distress for people and so can smoking. But is some smoking or procrastination bad? No. so is hallucinating that your cousin is whispering awful things about you to your family kind of is though. Once homosexuality was actually studied and understood, the idea of it being disease makes no sense when in nature many animals have gay sex. Homosexuality also does not cause self-destructive behavior man, it was ideological religion and close mindedness that created that mess. Yeah man, the dude who shot John Lennon was mentally unwell. He was talking ignorance and delusion and then killed someone. Uh, I am connected and instructed by God everyday and I do not have mental illness. Mental illness is also based upon self-harm and self-destructive behavior too. Call it a disease or lack of consciousness or superhero powers like Kanye. There are behaviors, beliefs, and thoughts that can be excessive and turn into self-destructive, socially destructive behavior or in other words, lack of consciousness. it just sounds like you are taking the word disease in this offensive manner. Question: If you see someone about to kill themselves, they got a rope around their neck about to kill themselves. you are going to seriously look at them and say, yep your thoughts, feeling, and perspective is okay and something a mentally well person would do? Or is it just likely that they are not seeing the world clearly? will you help them and stop them from killing themselves?
  10. Is there substantial evidence for that belief? are you certain that all women like to be treated like they are beneath men? are you sure you have all the evidence and assumptions checked to support this belief? can it be the case that women want to be feminine, but have equal respect? do you have good evidence supporting this belief? if so what is it?
  11. Well I'm not sure the extent of your assignment is, so whatever it is good luck! . I also liked expressing my interest in psychedelics in my research courses.
  12. @Cocolove Whatever you do, make sure its an accredited program/college. @Andreas I watched the video. I disagree. According to wiki - "In humans, disease is often used more broadly to refer to any condition that causes pain, dysfunction, distress, social problems, or death to the person afflicted, or similar problems for those in contact with the person." This contradicts everything you're saying. And schizophrenia in the United States does cause a lot of social problems and distress in society, a family, and an individual. You can even see this today as many homeless people have schizophrenia. They don't diagnose it with a scan because its expensive and unnecessary. Schizophrenia was already known before scans, and it can spotted because schizophrenia has a behavioral pattern as well as distinct brain differences compared to average brain. Addiction causes a lot of dysfunction and self-destructive behavior. I understand that calling it a disease or condition or brain abnormality is subjective, but the so called set of symptoms that schizophrenia is pointing to has a real pattern in behavior and distinct brain make up. I'm not saying we need to call it a disease, but it certainly IS something. The psychiatry treatment in 50s was abhorrent. Forcing non-violent people to take neuropsychiatry drugs is fucked too. but you're throwing the baby out with the bath water. Suggesting there is no such thing as mental distress or dysfunction. All emotions, feelings, behaviors even if they are significantly excessive for the average person is okay, even if it causes distress for the individual and the people around them. The labels are just a collective of signs or symptoms, but it's not black and white, everyone is unique and expresses their our version of everything. Psychology and psychiatry are still new fields too, it just needs time to develop into higher standards with more compassion, better approaches, and better medicine too. The main reason why I studied psychology was because I prefer a non-drug treatment method, but psychedelics will revolutionize psychiatry/psychology treatment. Maybe we will develop technologies that will help train those brain areas that develop desirable behaviors like self-control.
  13. Honestly, I would say that you still can, it's just how you do it. For example, I don't see anything wrong with saying "Hey I really like you, want to go out and do x,y,z?" or "I really appreciate that I can talk to you about sensitive topics, makes me feel like you are open minded, thanks, you are truly special " Additionally, if she keeps rejecting or ignoring, you can also authentically say "Hey I get the sense, that you are intentionally not responding to me. That's fine, I still appreciated our time together, if I see you around, I'll wave." then stop and move on! Ideally you want a situation where both partners need each other equally and then perhaps over the years it wavers back and forth, with one partner needing the other more due to emotional distress (this happens with my relationship). It's definitely hard to let go if you're not used to being alone, but if you feel lonely, go out and be around people, strike small conversations with stranger (both men and women) and let those little moments delight your need for socializations. edit: I also agree with @Serotoninluv here! There are different girls that are attracted to different qualities in guys and vice versa! It is imperative to develop balance and understanding of masculine and feminine energies too. I seriously recommend this book, definitely one of the best books I've ever read. https://www.amazon.com/Way-Superior-Man-Spiritual-Challenges-ebook/dp/B004A8ZWM4/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=
  14. Sounds like to me you already have kids (your animals) jk, jk. Honestly, I am a 24 year old male and I've known I wanted kids since I was a child. I just want my own mini me and I want a family. I am not sure why it is the case. I am aware that to me relationships and connecting with others is one of the best things one can experience in life, so it follows to create a tight knit group of my own. I don't know if its women's inherent purposes to want children, but it is certainly an exclusive and significant experience of females to get pregnant. This sounds like something to explore for yourself and I agree with examining your childhood and your relationship to your mother. I would guess that has had an impact your perspective of children. Like I noticed that a lot of children who have divorced parents are super insecure and dubious about marriage.
  15. I think I understand what you mean. I interpret your post as saying that this distance you felt between your "lower self" and "higher self" is now gone, correct? I recently tried 2c-b and became highly aware that I was directly connected with Truth whereas before I had this mental habit of treating my ego and God as separate even though I knew it was one. hard to explain. Like I was imaging Me ------------ God. Almost as if there was a distant link of some sort, but in actuality Me/God are right on top of each other. But I'm still in need of development and integration. edit: I could just be projecting my experience.
  16. You can't force it, it will naturally happen. Just do it in a room together, sit in silence, clear the air, don't even listen to music and just enjoy the moment. you could also put on an album. But in general, you just want to be quiet, relatively still, and just observe.
  17. Maybe in the populated cities of US, yes, but otherwise loads of people are very conscious where meat comes from especially in lesser developed countries considering that they kill it themselves or watch it get killed by a butcher. Additionally, hunting is a popular recreation in the US.
  18. Sure man. Psychedelics are powerful as fuck especially as you get to high doses.
  19. I like to do a yoga-inspired stretch and breathe deeply, stretch my body, relax, takes about 10 minutes. Then I meditate, which to me is just the process of being. I try to stay aware, and I focus on my breathe, but I also try to stay peripherally aware of everything else in a way, while noticing my breathe. I naturally go on thought adventures, notice it, and just come back to awareness. Thoughts aren't a bad thing, the coming back to awareness from the thought is the important part.
  20. I prefer sitting up, I may do a mini session laying down, but thats like in the moment and I am not timing myself or anything, Im just being present.
  21. I'm just saying it may be confusing to read personal growth, to me personal growth includes dealing with emotions to then move up to a new level of experience as you would put it. Further, you're gonna need to define what you mean by new level of experience. If you're just trying to study what psychedelics do, there's a lot of literature on it already. like Food of the Gods by Terence McKenna. Psychedelics medicines by Robert miller louis the doors of perception by aldous Huxley.
  22. I mostly agree with you and I said it was subjective. I think you're dog is irrelevant. We're talking about children in america who's parents want them to improve their behavior and do well in school to make something of themselves, get along with others. Children who display signs of "ADHD" have a difficult time doing so, it's well-documented from observational studies. and how do you spot it? "It is characterized by difficulty paying attention, excessive activity, or difficulty controlling behavior which is not appropriate for a person's age." you can read more about it on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attention_deficit_hyperactivity_disorder or the DSM-V. Kids have been stuck in classrooms for 6 hours a day for years. The kids who have ADHD stand out and thats why it's considered abnormal. Sensitive therapists will not call an ADHD kid sick, they are able to grasp that the world is a complex place, and the thing we focus on is helping ADHD children improve on the challenges they face which is self-control. we're talking about kids who can't sit still in their seats for a few minutes, sometimes just sitting for 1 minute can be difficult for them depending on the severity. I've seen it. What is interesting is that ADHD kids can play video games all day . I don't necessarily disagree or agree with the current treatment methods of ADHD, but that's what people created, and it is effective. I disagree with your last sentence. A person can have mental illness or be chronically mental distressed, and some patterns can be displayed through brain scans. Schizophrenia can be diagnosed from brain scans for example. I also think he's a bit outdated if he's talking about just behaviorism. Sometimes psychologists don't just diagnose people based on behavior and its based on what people subjectively report through tests or clinical interviewing. How is neuroscience, behaviorism, and some of the most famous psychology experiments not science? the CIA certainly thinks it is. Honestly, I just get this feeling you have a bone to pick with psychology lol. People have patterns and people can study these patterns, come up with hypotheses about them, and then test it, boom, science. Granted, psychology will always be a unique field since people is a hard thing to study. Maybe you think all psychologists go around thinking people have diseases when it's not the case, thats how psychiatrists think cause thats what they teach up in medical school. Psychologists training is more nuanced and some have a wholesome and compassionate way of looking at individuals.
  23. I would stick to games that provide challenge and make you think critically. Like Braid, Zelda, or Dark Souls. avoid games with loot boxes and I'd even say avoid online gaming since unless you are trying to become a professional gamer, I think they just take away from your life purpose development.
