Is Compassion a Delusion?

7 posts in this topic

How do u differentiate "compassion" from a form of self deluding? Is the pain you're feeling of another person something you're actually seeing in the other person or are you just making it up when it's not really there in them? Compassion not only seems arbitrary for survival, but if other sentient beings don't exist, the pain you are feeling for them isn't actually there in that person. Should we have compassion?

@Lifelover88 Worth contemplating in detail.

Though, for humans compassion is essential for survival. Without compassion life turns into a shit hole pretty fast.

If you are good… and want to be good.. it doesn’t matter if others are “real”.

Compassion, when done with love, wisdom, and maturity is very intrinsically rewarding.

If, being selfless, wise and loving is the key to the Good Life… then… do that.

But is it the key to a good life? Well, only through living and experimenting can it be known.

Why wouldn’t you want to be compassionate? Why would you want to be a selfish jerk to others?

The beauty of loving self and other is it’s own reward.

You need to study human history more. A lack of compassion is a sign of a limited intelligence that has not matured to see the bigger picture.

As Thought Art said, compassion is necessary for survival. Without compassion Laws wouldn't exist, Constitutions wouldn't exist, social programs wouldn't exist, education wouldn't exist, basically society is a symbol of compassion. Sure its flawed but it cannot even be constructed and defended without compassion.

If a society ever loses its compassion it will devolve into a civil war, and fall into a world of survival kill and be killed. A sign of growing compassion is when the bare necessities are not as hard to acquire as before. Food, water, shelter, are a lot easier to acquire than in times past. This is because of compassion.

You are a selfless LACK OF APPEARANCE, that CONSTRUCTS AN APPEARANCE. But that appearance can disappear and reappear and we call that change, we call it time, we call it space, we call it distance, we call distinctness, we call it other. But notice...this appearance, is a SELF. A SELF IS A CONSTRUCTION!!!

So if you want to know the TRUTH OF THE CONSTRUCTION. Just deconstruct the construction!!!! No point in playing these mind games!!! No point in creating needless complexity!!! The truth of what you are is a BLANK!!!! A selfless awareness....then that means there is NO OTHER, and everything you have ever perceived was JUST AN APPEARANCE, A MIRAGE, AN ILLUSION, IMAGINARY.

Everything that appears....appears out of a lack of appearance/void/no-thing, non-sense (can't be sensed because there is nothing to sense). That is what you are, and what arises...is made of that. So nonexistence, arises/creates existence. And thus everything is solved.

Compassion is really about yourself.  How selfless and loving are you,  it was never about other people, it was about you. That should answer the question of delusion.   It doesn't matter whether others are having an experience or not.  But on that note -  If you imagine they are then they are.  Imagination IS reality.

@Lifelover88 i saw that the world is empty meaning if you are sitting on a couch with your girlfriend you really love and you are cuddling and feeling loving all of it is created by you. The feeling of closeness the sharing of love. The warm and comfyness you two are sharing is all completely constructed by you. There are no feeling outside of you its void of everything. 1 cm outside your skull is a void of nothing and no feeling. You can never be with someone you are only with yourself. Not only that but everything you think your girlfriend is feeling  and thinking you are creating.

If you kiss someone and feel a spark you are creating the spark and you are creating the love for yourself.

Therefore I think it is only delusional if you are doing it for anyone else but yourself.

Compassion is in fact a product of survival. Many animals exhibit compassion as well. But why compassion is called a spiritual quality is because this tool called compassion can be used to expand your ego as much as you want. Your higher consciousness or sixth sense or the 'glitch' in evolution allows it to be possible. A deer can't love a lion, especially when it is being attacked but a human can certainly love them. A human can love another human even when he is getting stabbed by a person completely unknown to him. That's how compassion becomes a godly character, although many have to start from what evolution or genetics has given us.
