Could Florida ever become a solid blue state in the future?

9 posts in this topic

Since around the early 2000s the areas of the country that have voted Democratic have been those that are urban, coastal, diverse, more secular and more well-educated.

Florida is on the coast, has big cities, is one of the 7 most diverse states in the country, and has numerous well-educated and non-religious people throughout the entire state.

I get that the state has now recently become a solid red state because of what has happened since 2016 including Trumpism, Ron DeSantis, the growing number of latin immigrants who moved there from countries that had failed socialist regimes, the growing number of old white retirees having moved to the states, and the Democratic party's poor level of organization down there.

But given its demographics isn't it still possible for the state to turn solid blue some day in the future?

DeSantis will have a hold on that place for a long time.

I know....

Maybe 10 years from now it could shift back toward blue?

Yes, Florida indeed has become lost cause for the next several years.

Unfortunately, significant parts of rust belt has unfortunately been slipping away from the Democrats hold since 2016.

However, the sun belt (except for maybe Florida) appears to be a future Democratic stronghold. Did you check out my thread "The Sun Belt in America turning blue is inevitable" in this section of the forum?

DeSantis cannot run again. He will step down in 2026.

"Not believing your own thoughts, you’re free from the primal desire: the thought that reality should be different than it is. You realise the wordless, the unthinkable. You understand that any mystery is only what you yourself have created. In fact, there’s no mystery. Everything is as clear as day. It’s simple, because there really isn’t anything. There’s only the story appearing now. And not even that.” — Byron Katie

I just found a recent vid that gave clear reasons on why Florida turned red:

I wouldn't say so, there are so very progressive people in places like Miami and plenty of  LGBTQ community there.  Just because people there like their freedoms doesn't mean they are right wing.  There is some crossover and largely Americans on average everywhere are becoming less religious.

Ron DeSantis will be why voter turnout among more left leaning people goes up. Whether that is enough is yet to be seen.
