Social Media, The New Drug?

6 posts in this topic

Hey guys. I've done some studies regarding social media and the effects that it has on our brains. Even though, all of us ackwnoledge in a way or another that what we post is not something to have an emotional anchor to, it seems that everytime I share or post something I feel extremely ashamed of myself, as though my brain or intuition is telling me that something stinks real bad. I've been addicted to porn and video games, and I had the same feelings whenever I relapsed, and I thought that the same chemical imbalance may happen in the brain when using Facebook, Instragram etc, as when someone is using cocaine or playing slot machine games.

There are many studies regarding this issue and I want to know if you've been dealing or have dealt with this addictive behaviour. Thanks!

@Stoica Doru I deleted Facebook. I went back on it a few days ago and found it repulsive. So I we deleted it again. This whole process took like 5 minutes.

I deleted it once before and went back for like two months.

It's definitely an addiction yeah. It's like quiting smoking after that there is a void. Big spaces of time that you don't know what to do with.

I deal with this too...I've installed & deleted facebook from my phone many times! Now I just check facebook on my laptop only to search for new events.  Also my feed was full of bullshit so I unfollowed almost all of my "friends".

What we could do is stop checking social media sites when we have nothing else to do.

@Stoica Doru Similarly to you, I also was addicted to Facebook. However, the solution to this is simple meditate daily in order to increase your awareness and you will simply realise how stupid Facebook truly is and even if the opportunity is right in front of you I doubt you will spend your time scrolling through the home page, due to the fact that meditation increases your awareness. Additionally, try focus on your life purpose daily, as you will realise you have a significant task to accomplish by the end of your life, if you don't then buy the life purpose course and create one for yourself.

Enjoy life Stoica! 9_9

I deleted facebook a while ago, i did however re-create one where i added no one and just liked the pages i followed for educational purposes and sharing/helping others. This way seems much better but i hardly use it anymore. Forums like these are much better where we can connect with like-minds.

Deleting Facebook is pointless because it is still there.  What you need to really do is delete all of your friends.  Or do what I did and make a game from it.  Delete a friend a day or 7 a week until you just get fed up and delete them all.
