Anyone remember this quote in one of Leo's videos?

15 posts in this topic

It was in one of Leo's earlier videos. He was talking about a king-type character and a peasant-type character. The king was boasting about having all the money, looks, etc. in the world. I just remember the peasant having the last laugh since he did not need all that.

I've watched about 30 videos now so gave up on finding it. Could be in the Life purpose course. Looked there too :(

Damn now i'm thinking that it could be on the blog too. Doom. If the clip master could remember and upload this , this thread would be worth it.

I remember a story about a warlord entering a village where he meets a monk and tells him, "I have the power to kill you right here."  Then the monk says, "I have the power to not care."  Then the warlord was so impressed he gave up his title and became the monk's student.  I'm totally paraphrasing here.  Was that the story?

I can't remember the video, unfortunately!  I'm guessing it has something to do with non attachment or knowing where true power lies?  I'm pretty sure it was a main video though, not the blog.

@FlyingLotus ❤️ you put me in the right direction. Thanks! I have no idea either but at least I can better remember the details now.

I'll update you if I do find the video. If anything, its a practice in detachment if i never find it.

again thanks.

@K VIL2 @FlyingLotus This is one of my favorite stories. It was definitely in one of Leo’s videos but I too don't remember which one. However, it’s also in Peter Ralston’s “Book of Not Knowing,” which is where I learned about it first.

-

In ancient China a terrible and ferocious warlord was ransacking the country side.

Coming upon a Zen monastery his army began killing and pillaging.

When the warlord entered the inner courtyard he found the abbot of the monastery sitting in a chair.

The abbot said firmly, “Get out of my monastery.”

The powerful warlord walked up to the abbot, sword in hand and said, “You don’t understand. I could kill you without blinking an eye.”

The abbot replied, “No, you don’t understand. I could die without blinking an eye.”

After this, the warlord became a devotee of the abbot.

...

Fucking savage 😂🙏

It is was more along the lines of

"I could kill you without blinking an eye." The monk replied, "I could die without blinking an eye."

I think it's not about the zen master. It's about Alexander the great (the great killer I would say, since I am an anarchist and I don't like people killing each other and called great based on their great strategic ability to kill others, as an anarchist I don't believe one should be submit to any other human, although in practice we all do me incuded), so it's probably alex the great story which leo knows wrong cause it was not exactly the way he told.

So Alexander the great and his gang goes to submit another city state to his army and purpose. There it was a philosopher called Diogenes if I remember right. So Alexander the great knowing his fame before he either goes there (i imagine whole greece communicated and gossiped when they travel to other city states as 'friends').

Allexander says, where is Diogenes? I want go talk to him.

Some people tell him where he is. So he goes there.

There stands Diogenes, in his big jar that rarely gets out of it.

Diogenes is the kind of guy that lives in a jar cause he doesn't want many things in life, he just loves being there, he finds joy there, having a mininal lifestyle. Not doing what everyone else does in their rat race.

So Alexander and his gang approach Diogenes. Alex stand in front of him. He narcissisticaly says , wanting to feel important that he has a relationship or is as important at Diogene's life and want to have an impact with 'great' Diogenes.

In all his glory, Alexander the Great stands in front of him and asks ''What do you Diogenes want for me, I can give you anything you ask, what is the thing me Alexander would want me to do for you?''  Diogenes replies ''Can you step aside bro, you are blocking the sun coming to my face''

Alexander the great not being genghis khan starts to laugh with the reply, and let crazy Diogenes alone to live his life, , while alex and his gang go away for some new conquest, leaving Diogenes alone.

I think that's the story you mean, and not the zen master, but you know better what you meant, I gave you the story that didn't happen exactly like that. It meant that Diogenes was happy, he didn't wish anything to make him happy, he lived happy even with the kind of life that many think brings unhappiness. He didn't need to ask anything for alex the great nor he though he has to conquer the word and become great to satisfy his ego with decaded of war, with power games assasinations and stuff. He didn't have to become great king or try to befriend alex to take some place in society.

aside from all that i think Diogenes was great philosohper at least for relative domain, I don't think he knew more than awakened people but maybe he did for all i can know

@K VIL2I get the sense that it was videos about full circle, on how alexander the great wanted to have everything to feel happy and wasn't happy, while Diogenes had  nothing and was happy. Same with Zen master. Or about the counter intuitive things in life or videos like that. It's just a mention not the topic

@eaaaeaeae you're amazing Eaaaeaeae. Thank You

After going through pretty much all the videos looking for the line, i came back here and voila. your memory is one of a kind!

It's a shame google results don't help with this. Maybe just how I used it.

Thanks to everyone else who chimed in!

edit- and the Alexander story was also a "great" one to be reminded of. Not sure if it was the one I was thinking about but equally well told. :)
