To add a little bit on your question.

I would stay present while reading or listening something "boring" like you say but it still drains energy and makes you feel tired. When you listen to a very mental person it's like a vampire who sucks life out of you, no matter how present you are :D when you listen to someone who speaks from presence, it gives you life.

Trying to force the mind into concentration is a very ineffective strategy. @The Don If you want to learn how to concentrate, The Mind Illuminated is what you need. 

I meditate 2 hours per day atm. Yeah sometimes sessions feel like you're extremely euphoric and mildly tripping. Couldn't imagine what 62,000 accumulated hours of practice are like...

@The Don How does it feel like? Joyful, open, alert awareness with effortless stability of attention. Sudden unexpected sounds don't startle you as much or at all, high equanimity
