Even if you measured light one way, how do you know its the same speed during that one way?

So, this tells us that there is, at least currently, no way to confirm whether or whether not speed of light is the same in different directions. 

Are there any grounds as to why different speed in different directions would be plausible? E.g. the nature of the universe expansion? Or is it mostly mental masturbation centered around the not knowing?
