Why Do Life-Design Gurus Say That Dairy is bad for you?

14 posts in this topic

Since I've started self development, I've heard many times that dairy products are bad for you.  Aren't they also good for you?  If you're not lactose intolerant, what's so bad?  Shouldn't you be able to feel if they're affecting you negatively. For Example, if I eat McDonald's or a box of Oreos, my workout is usually severely affected.  Dairy is a different story. Lately, I've been drinking at least a liter of milk everyday and everything's cool.

Leo talks about auto-immune diseases because of dairy, wheat, etc.  Shouldn't those diseases be obvious if you have them?  Is this something subtle?

Well it's just not as simple a matter as is this thing bad or not. I have no idea about "life-design gurus" but I mean are you quite happy to ingest milk that contains traces of anti-biotics, herbicides, chlorinated pesticides, recombinant bovine growth hormone? Not sure where you are located, but rBGH is legal for use in dairy cattle In America, it's pretty fucked up. I do not consume cow's milk but don't consider raw, organic cow or goat milk to be unhealthy in sensible amounts.

Consider also that disease does not spawn overnight. Just because you feel fine now, does not mean it's great for you.

You can't see what the hell is going on inside your body so how do you know everything is cool? There are also the ethical implications of consuming dairy. I would suggest use it very sparingly and the highest quality you can afford. It sounds like you have quite a bit of research to do.

We have to ferment dairy for it to be somewhat "good" for us but if you think about it, if we need to ferment a food to be good for us then it shouldn't be in our body to begin with. We are naturally more designed to consume plants than animal and animal products.

@Michael569 I remember one lady trying to tell me that you should not give fruit or veggie puree to a baby because it can't "stomach it" yet she was fine giving a milk powder formula from another animal and did not for a second think or question it.

These were the ingredients:

Milk solids, Maltodextrin,  Whey Protein (Milk), vegetable oils (including soybean), emulsifier (soy lecithin), taurine, acidity regulator (lactic acid), nucleotides (cytidine-5′-monophosphate, disodium uridine-5′-monophosphate, adenosine-5′-monophosphate, disodium inosine-5′-monophosphate, disodium guanosine-5′-monophosphate), antioxidants (mixed tocopherols concentrate, ascorbyl palmitate), L-tryptophan, L-cysteine, L-carnitine.

No wonder babies get sick, have stomach aches and diarrhea and diseases all the time.. Id feel sick for a week consuming a chemical shitstorm like that.

Yet they cant stomach Banana, Sweet potato and Apple puree 3 simple ingredients from nature herself but can stomach a cows heavily processed milk powder full of artificially made chemicals.

@pluto yes, it starts very early in life. Unfortunately, unless parents look out for this stuff and are only fed the mainstream information, they would not know any better. We've all been trapped in this at some point in our lives.

Even after 2 years on vegan diet, my body is still congested with mucous from dairy which is giving me really shitty allergies. It may take years to get rid of all that...

Do a fruit fast brother :) or a juice fast/feast. It will speed up the detox process significantly and if you want, an efficient water fast will clean the deepest leftovers away.

Dairy is the single most common cause of severe disease.

Got any references to support that?

@Michael569

The single most common cause of disease though.  That's a pretty hefty claim.

Do you have a specific paper that shows correlation?

I know you can point me to vegan propaganda channels such as Dr. Greger, but have you got something more convincing?

I admit though that saying "single most common"  was an overstatement...there are definitely other factors, I just felt like bashing on dairy  :)

Ok, but don't mislead people. I've already sussed Dr. Greger. His intentions are good but he is coming from an angle. The data on dairy is not conclusive.

Yeah, a litre of cows milk is a lot. Yeah it may make you feel bad. Anything in excess can make you feel bad (especially those who don't have the lactase enzyme to be able to digest the stuff!). But saying that dairy is the leading cause of disease is going overboard. There is no issue in consuming moderate amounts of cheese, yoghurt, kifr, Greger uses very weak arguments to try to fit everything into his model of lifestyle medicine. Research his research, it's really inconclusive and just a story he has concocted with other plant based advocates.

Have you tried Coconut yogurt? or other plant-based yogurt? They taste exactly the same as dairy yogurt when made and fermented properly.

@Michael569 I don't want to be dismissive of your concerns but to say that dairy is the major cause of all diseases is not too wise.

It's a bit of a straw man.

Anyway if it works for you then I'm happy for you. Just be careful not to make bold claims that are not true. Just say you don't know.

well, same way you can't take all the work of someone like Greger and call it a biased science. The guy has helped thousands of people across the globe. Biased or not, he is making the world better place.

I agree he is helping people. But if you can't see the plant based vegan agenda mixed in then you're missing a trick.

His work is clearly worked it's way into your consciousness, even to the point that you preptuate his propaganda with completely false statements like

Consider cooked milk vs. raw... it's a different food.  Traditional people often had raw milk as a staple of their diet.
