What’s the point of doing semen retention for a whole year? Like, what exactly are you trying to achieve here? If you have a girlfriend with whom you have sex, you obviously want to enjoy the experience and reach ejaculation sometimes, rather than always practising tantric sex or full-body orgasms without actually ejaculating.

If you want to have kids, that’s another thing. But what’s the point of retaining your semen for years on end?
Sexual health and  wellbeing are important too.  prolonged abstinence can lead to  sexual frustration or obsessive sexual thoughts, making it harder to concentrate.  So, what exactly are you hoping to achieve through long-term semen retention?

I’m not saying abstaining doesn’t give you a boot of confidence and clarity for like two weeks or three and that porn is bad but having a whole personality around semen retention is kinda stupid in my opinion.

I have practiced this in two separate retreats and I felt very clear headed the first time around, and a sense peace which lasted for a month or two but other than that, no mystical experiences.

There are no spiritual powers to semen retention. I understand that it could make you more motivated because you are supercharged with hormones but that’s as far as it goes . For me personally, if I don’t masturbate twice a month I become very moody and aggressive and low tempered .

It never feels right.

I do it too but I want to become able to quit it.

Don't ever go on justifying it even in your own mind let alone on the Internet and in discussion with others.

I know I'm a hypocrite saying this when I'm still doing it too but hey I couldn't just not say it to you either.

I was convinced about this in my early 20s but the older I get the more I realize how this semen retention theory/ practice thing is 30% correct , 70% bullshit.

That's the exact reason that it's not right.

This is not letting go this is just a practice of lustful thoughts and giving in to them.

This is holding on to lust not letting go of lust.

that’s debatable. It can be a destructive habit if you’re addicted and doing it compulsively. That’s a separate issue. The point is that semen retention in and of itself has no spiritual value.

@Salvijus do you think this time can be shortened by intense practice as time is relative.i think the 12 mark is a standard and maybe if i meditate with intensity this time can be reduced to 2 years. As i have read vivekanand saying some people take thousand years some 12 years some 6 years can some even 6 months to reach perfectness.It depends on how much coal you put on the furnace

I don't know about the value of semen retention but masturbation is definitely compulsive in all its forms.

How can it not be compulsive?

This is such a naive take, pardon me. 
there is really no negative consequences to masturbation at all if you are doing it moderately, Without a specific rate . just whenever you feel like you really need to do it in order to clear your head from sexual thoughts and cleanse yourself from unnecessary stress because of suppressed sexual energy.   And the reason I say whenever it’s “needed “  , and without a specific “ rate “ is because everyone is different. Your libido depends on several factors: your diet , your fitness, your age ,etc .
 

If you get married and are interested in becoming a father , you have to ejaculate inside your woman’s womb . Now , tell me that that’s “too much “and I shouldn’t become a father ,and retain my seminal fluid forever instead (which is not going to happen because of nocturnal emissions ).

semen contains protein, Zink, Calcium, Magnesium, etc . But you never really run out of semen . Your testicle produces semen 24/7 from the nutrients you get from food .

now, if you are addicted to compulsive masturbating to unhealthy porn genres, then that’s a completely different thing and I agree that you should not do it in this way .
