Hopefully they start firing big missiles now that the u.s. switched to Russian side. The only reason they haven't is to not provoke a larger attack by Russia, which seems moot now.

These two european neighbors have been shedding blood for the last five years in this conflict .

The two world wars which originated in europe came about due to incompetent leadership and diplomats, as per historians.

Hopefully, the UN and NAM (non-aligned movement) can bring about diplomacy and negotiations between the two and end this issue, and nip any prospect for nuclear war and holocaust in the bud.

It is a PR win for Ukraine but I do not see how this will actually help much with their current situation

If more than anything, it will lead to Russia become more shameless with their attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure

It is interesting though to see the impact it has on the internet especially since I heard AFD fans suddendly dropped, showing Russia is indeed supporting AFD

It clearly helps Ukraine. Because the only chance Ukraine has is to bog Russia down into an endless war that Russia cannot win. Then Russia will get tired and quit.

Russia cannot keep fighting an endless war.

Ukraine is Afghanistan 3.0

At some point Putin will retire. He's getting old.

Historically we know what happens internally with a Nation that spend their way down into Wars. France Revolution for example. Was not the case that all the invesment of Foreign wars weakened it inside and the discontent from its citzens got to the point to the Bastille situation? I am reducing a bit here since there may be other factors but is not this one of many factors? How lond can one spend energy outwards till the inner system collapse? ( I am making a parallel with a person for exemple spend energy figth outside drama that end up draining the body capacity to have energy for itself

The only thing i disagree with him on is militarizing Europe. A europe that uses the u.s. military as defense would be a much better geopoliticsl strategy, lessening Russian resolve and making it more appealing to trade with from other countries that it has historically exploited, essentially the rest of the world. A European army would cause fear in Russia, nationalism, resolve. A European army could also wind up striking Russia. De-militarized leads to more stability, when, you don't need it (U.S. defense). The only reason Europe does need to militarize is because the u.s. is abandoning it.

Of course it does, but at what cost?

Neither can Ukraine, it has 4x less population. Motivation to defend your country can only take you so far. Especially with the global shortage of advanced Western air defense weapons due to Trump "genious" Iran war. This winter will be brutal...

Putin may be removed from office if he cannot sell the war as a victory in Russia which can mean death in a country like Russia

He is too far gone to just call it quits

A mobilization will happen in Russia if the war goes on much longer

Do not underestimate how stubborn Russians can be

The situation is very complicated as Ukraine cannot trust a Russian peace deal without NATO membership or presence of NATO troops in Ukraine which to Russia is the whole pretex they used to start the war. So both sides are stuck.

And lets not forget Putin is not the only pro war person in Russia, someone even worse may replace him.

They can because it's their homeland and they got nowhere else to go.

That already occurred is occurring, started 4 years ago.

Russia can never occupy all of Ukraine

What they are trying to get is Donbass, that is what the whole war is about

The Russian speaker part of Ukraine, full of minerals and historically pro Russian

Some of the most extreme pro Russians want all of Novorussia, but the current battlefield situation makes obtaining it almost impossible

Western Ukraine cannot be occupied, it is too aggressive and anti Russian

So Ukranian people can go to the non Donbass Ukraine which will not be conquered as it is not part of Russia war goals

Russia cannot realistically end the war without getting all of Donbass (all 4 oblasts to be exact), and afterwards they can call it quit without loosing face to their own population

Putin can survive politically if Donbass is captured and the rest of Ukraine is left independent.

Of course he will want more if allowed but I doubt he would continue much further given the damage the war does to Russia.

Putin cannot potentially survive politically if not all of Donbass is captured

No it has not, that is paid contractors

A proper mobilization is what is going on in Ukraine where men over 25 cannot leave the country and tens of thousands have fled or been arrested and sent forcefully to the front

The Russian army is mostly a mercenary army composed of people from poorer parts of Russia that find the payments to serve as attractive

If Russia mobilized like Ukraine did, the army would have reached millions by now

They're conscripted against their will, since 2022, Russians.

"Russia has conscripted or mobilized over 1.2 million people"

Most are conscripted and they are from poorer parts of Russia

They received payments which relative to what they would earn back home were seen as attractive enough to enlist

Whole reason why a proper mobilization is being considered now is because the people who were willing to be conscripted in exchange for money have run out and the rest wont do it.

They did try a partial mobilization in 2022 but it did not go as well as expected and many fled

Since then, they switched to the paid soldier formula which worked ok until now

Its passed the window of Ukrainians giving in, they hate Russians now and want to kill them even if it means losing their lives, Russians have tried to kill them for 5 years now. Russians are more like complete opposite of that with respect to this war.

All Ukraine needs to do is support an overthrow of putin inside Russia. This is why Ukraine doesn't target russian civillians.

They for sure hate Russia but saying "they want to kill them even if it means dying themselves" is a bit of a strecht

They are nationalistic and want all their land which is not uncommon amongs countries

But they do not strike me as kamikazes

If overthrowing Putin was that easy, it would have been done already by the West. Not to mention you may get someone worse.

Reason Ukraine does not strike civilians is because if they did they would loose the global image they have as the "good guy"

Without that image, support for them would collapse and unlike Russia, Ukranine cannot fight this without massive assistance

Not to mention there have been some cases of targetting of civilians but quite limited in scope and not fully clear if it was intentional or colleteral damage
