ADHD and Memory

7 posts in this topic

Has anyone with ADHD had any success with memory retention? I have a hard time retaining information because of my ADHD and it affects everything else in my life. I can’t be medicated so I would like any tips or techniques you have used to address this. Thank you

Why do you believe you cannot be medicated?
There are like 6 different ADHD medications (depending on your country). You tried them all?

I do not want to be medicated after hearing from others who were and also I’m not in a place to be able to get medication for this as I cannot afford the insurance required.

@Vynce also being medicated has a lot more cost to it than it is worth. It still will not allow my retention to be cured. It becomes another dependency to just be normal.

Medication was worth it 10000x for me. I also struggled with memory, and holding coherent technical conversations that required paying attention and remembering what was said. Medication has made it much easier.

Don't be put off by other people's stories of side effects. ADHD medication side effects are very individual, some people have tons, some people have none. In my case I had mild side effects for about a month and then they all went away.

Ofc you are free to treat your ADHD however you like. But consider the side effects of not treating it properly. I'm not a fan of stimulants as well, and loved every progress I made without them (psychotherapy for example), but they can help certain people tremendously.

Untreated ADHD people literally have a minus 10 years life expectancy because of risky behaviour, drug use ect.
You have to evaluate for yourself how serious you want to take this. But small little lifestyle chances and nutrition hacks or whatever, won't deal with real ADHD sufficiently I think.

I have ADHD, and my memory can be all over the place. With some subjects, I have no trouble retaining and recalling information, while with others, it's quite a bit harder. Sound familiar?

I'm not currently on medication, but I'm thinking about giving it another shot pretty soon.  Since i really got into reading books and i what to be able to retain the information better.
