I'm Brazilian I wish I had the stomach to study and follow politics.

I wonder if Brazilian politics and goverment is wayyyyy too different from the US, cuz I just keep looking at US stuff

My survival strategy so far has been to avoid spending time with political stuff, especially short-term trends, and direct time & energy towards self-development, spirituality, and psychedelics.

Not necessarily proud of it but I think it's an effective way to blind yourself from the drain of time & energy that politics can be in someone's life.

Of course the long-term trends and patterns are part of developmental psychology, such as Spiral Dynamics and The 9 Stages of Ego Development, so one has to study them even if narrowly focusing on personal development.

Great video from Wagner Moura on the Bolsonaro-Trump connection (corruption), and how the US, under Trump, coerces and extracts natural resources from other countries:

Flavio seems to have 1.7% above lula as an average of public surveys conducted. He will likely win by a small percentage like that.

I actually extend mentally the concept of political stuff to anything else like all of the doomerism about economy, dating market, etc. It's all kinda like the weather, are we gonna do what about it? Do a little rain dance if it doesn't rain? We just stick with preparing the best we can. It's such a major waste of personal time, it's fine to do some deep research now and then like I did recently, but getting stuck in the day-to-day shenanigans of politics and other societal crap really drains us. Same goes for watching the news, even if it's for stuff like tech or scientific research. Like those endless videos about quantum computing, fusion energy or LLM doomerism.

This guy here Jones Manoel from Pernambuco is up for a Radical Left. No more negotiations with Extreme Rigth. He talks about going towards them. About a Revolution.

Where did we saw this same pattern?

Not the I would not love people to go radical towards these Motherfuckers. But all acts have repercutions.

### 1. The Real Sacrificial Meat: The Candangos
The transcript paints the workers as happy pioneers marching in unison, fueled by "love and hope."

The truth is that they were a disposable army of desperate, impoverished migrants fleeing the catastrophic 1958 drought in the Northeast, lured into the middle of nowhere by promises of a better life.
* **The Meat Grinder:** They worked 16-to-18-hour shifts under floodlights, sleeping in wooden shacks in freezing desert nights, eating spoiled food, with virtually zero safety equipment. Men fell from scaffolds into wet cement, their bodies occasionally buried in the foundations to avoid halting the 24-hour construction schedule.
* **The Pacheco Fernandes Massacre (February 1959):** This is the event the history books tried to erase. When workers at the Pacheco Fernandes construction firm protested against spoiled, maggot-ridden food and withheld pay, the GEB (*Guarda Especial de Brasília*—the regime’s paramilitary police) locked down the camp, surrounded the mess hall, and opened fire with submachine guns. Scores of unarmed workers were slaughtered and buried in mass graves. The press was censored, and JK never mentioned it.
* Even the heroic Bernardo Sayão, hailed in the video as the ultimate pioneer, died violently—crushed by a falling tree as they carved the Belém-Brasília highway through the jungle.

Damn, that is some really dark stuff!! You can see from Juscelino K's video how he painted everything as rainbows and butterflies but the reality looks very different, he workers are basically slaves. All brazilians hate Brasilia, the whole place was not designed for people and its hot and dry af, so much of the city feels completely disconnected from human scale urban planning, shame on Oscar Niemeyer and Lucio Costa for participating in the circus. I graduated in architecture and urbanism and never liked Niemeyers work anyways.

Thank you for sharing all this information, I'm Brazilian, and my whole family back in Brazil is out in the streets cheering for Bolsonaro. I only started studying Brazilian politics more seriously after moving to the US and the deeper I dig, the uglier it gets. It's honestly disturbing how much suffering gets overlooked.

I would be curious to hear your inputs on where Brazil is at in SD, I know Bolsonaro has definitely some strong red/blue/orange and Lula some Green.

My great grandma was indigenous so Im totally emotionally involved which stops me from seeing the big picture with clear eyes, hence one of the things that concerns me the most is what happened to indigenous communities during Jair Bolsonaro's presidency. Illegal gold mining expanded to protected areas, destroying the forest and contaminating the rivers with mercury, exposing whole indigenous communitues to violence, diseases, hunger :(

Back in the last Bolsonaros presidency more than 500 yanomami kids died from malnourishment and malaria. There were horrifying photos of severely starved kids (literally vomiting germs, just skin and bones), lots of armed miners attacking indigenous villages and even this event where indigenous kids were swallowed by some heavy machinery that were doing illegal mining, its trully heartbreaking.

Bolsonaros administration weakened environmental protection and increased mining on indigenous areas. Amazon deforestation increased sooo much during his presidency too.

Under Lula there have been some changes, he created the ministry of indigenous peoples, environmental enforcement and created operations against illegal mining, amazon deforestation has fallen a lot, but honestly don't want to romanticize Lula, the guy was in prison lol

Indigenous people are still being murdered, illegal mining didnt disappear and land conflicts are still a big problem, there is an enormous amount of work to be done..

What really frustrates me is seeing how politics becomes almost like a soccer rivalry, where people blindly defend their preferred party instead of examining the consequences of their policies. My own family is caught in that polarization which makes the whole situation even more personal, I have a clear boundary with my parents and we don't really discuss politics.

I'm also concerned about Bolsonaros alliance with Trump and what this relationship could mean for Brazils environmental policies, not expecting anything good!

Brazil has some serious issues that neither side is able to properly fix yet promises big every time. The poverty and favelas in Brazil are out of control. They try to say that Lula goes easy on the crime that comes from favelas which is true but it's not like Bolsonaro was able to lower the crime rate. Hard statistics point to homicide dropping under Lula while staying the same under Bolsonaro. You can expect a lot of show of force under Bolsonaro but no real changes.

Flavio Bolsonaro is from the Organized Crime. If he wins things will not get good.

And Trump will have one Ally in a Country full of Natural Resources.
