Changing my Reading Strategy

I'm 2/3 of the way through Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg.

Highly recommend.

It has triggered some huge insights for me. The book is not what it seems.

Reading this one as there are some small tasks you probably wouldn't be able to properly engage with if this were consumed as an audiobook. Possible, but much easier to circle and note.

Yeah, It’s a really good book and he nails just about everything I would say. You can apply what he teaches to your own self talk as well. Very powerful stuff. I listened to the audio version then I read it because I knew I didn’t get everything I wanted out of it.

Thanks for sharing.

On a tangent: listening AND reading (together at the same time) may increase your comprehension or memorization of the subject.

I would love to do more of that but I haven't found an app that seamless sync both, however. Audible + Kindle has many bugs and would often desynchronize between one or the other (I tried the "immersive reading" feature without success).

Edit: Has someone used the audible captions feature? It seems this one may suffice what I wanted originally.

I'm also trying audiobooks lately but I feel like I retain much less, as some of you guys also noted. But still, it depends on the book.

What e-readers do you guys use? I used to read on my laptop or phone, but I wanted to reduce white light 1-2 hours before bed so I ordered Kobo e-reader, waiting for it to arrive. I chose this one over Kindle because I didn't want to be locked in to Amazon ecosystem and I've read good reviews on Kobo.

Have any of you used Kobo?

@bazera kindle Paperwhite - it was a gift so I rolled with it.

Being locked to Amazon shits me.

@Natasha Tori Maru Do you easily import your own EPUB's or PDF's into Kindle?

What I liked about Kobo is that you connect it to one of your Cloud accounts, for example Dropbox, and you import whatever you want.

I think Amazon even restricted downloading your own books from Kindle, so now I have many books that I've brought from Amazon on Kindle that I won't be able to import in Kobo 🤬

Yep, just email them as an attachment.

This makes me want to punch kittens. It has made me purchase physical books as of late.
