The Self

11 posts in this topic

The Self, our Being, is awareness.

Thoughts and feelings comes and goes, but awareness remains constant always.

The attributes of Self or Awareness is peace, bliss and contentment.

Greatest mystery is that we get entangled in our thoughts and emotions in the pursuit of pleasure forgetting the Self, and inadvertently create a nightmarish cocoon of psychological suffering for ourselves.

It is like begging for scraps and pennies while sitting on a treasure chest and ignorant of the same due to amnesia.

Some people arrive at the knowledge of the Self intuitively, while others come to the same through spiritual philosophies and authentic religious methodologies.

Some unfortunates however never learn of their own Self during their lifetimes though it is the closest to them.

Self-consciousness is a biological tool used for physical survival, but humans turn it into a false, permanent identity.

When the illusion of the self drops away, the physical body simply functions on its own without interference.

Animals are luckier than humans because they were not artificially conditioned to believe they are separate from all that is naturally being.

Humans “suffered” as their nature split off as and through this artificial conception believed to be real.

But it wasn’t all doom and gloom because the same mechanism that was able to split was able to repair the breach. Where wholesomeness was restored, and suffering was known to be no longer suffered by anyone, and there was known to be just sensation sensed as coming and going, bubbling up and dissolving.  All just thoughts flowing uninvited lingering for a while then completely disappearing as there was nowhere to land, or belong to.

Nothing negative or wrong about it, it just seems to layer and layer like an onion through the body's life. Like a huge bundle of different things.

Nobody's doing it on purpose, it just seemingly happens.

It's not actually there though.

The word false implies there is a correct identity somewhere........that's part of the same illusion.

There just isn't a self period.

That's the big scary shocker.

The self is an structure that the reality takes that implies being aware of itself splitting into two. The self is not someone or something, it's a self reflexive form that happens. There is not a mysterious seer, it's just the fact os seeing that happens when a process that we call life interact with what is external to it with enough complexity to create a model that acts as interface between the external and the internal.

It's absolutely obvious, read again and if you get it, your self will loose it's limits

Reality has nothing to do with words.

You can't say how you were prior to beingness.
There were no words, no knowledge, nothing.
Words cannot describe "nothing".

Anything that appears and disappears must be a dream.

“When objective knowledge comes to an end, the individual seer does not survive as a seer. At that moment, the pride of "I" just melts away. As the individual being is conceptual, so also is the seer. If you call this city "Bombay", it appears as Bombay; if you call it earth, it will appear as earth. It all depends upon the seer's concept. If you call an object a chair, it is a chair; if you call it wood, it is wood. If you call the all as Reality, then the all is Reality. If you call it the world, it is the world. Perception of objects depends on the concept of the seer. But Reality is beyond concept and no concept can capture It.“

How you were prior to beingness, remain like that." So how were you prior to beingness? You were "not knowing". You were totally unaware of everything. You did not know anything.

AI

Prior to beingness, you existed as a state of pure, unmanifest stillness without any identity, thoughts, or awareness of a separate self.

The State Before "I Am"

Before you were born or came into this body, your true nature had no form.

No concepts: There were no words, labels, or memories.

No body: You did not possess a physical shape or gender.

No time: Past and future did not exist.

No observer: There was no separate "you" to look at the world.

What is "Not Knowing"?

"Not knowing" means resting before the arrival of consciousness.

Pure emptiness: It is not a dark room or a blank space.

Zero separation: Nothing was divided into objects or subjects.

No burden: Without the mind, there was no suffering or desire.

Remaining Like That

Spiritual teachers like Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj suggest returning to this root feeling.

Drop the labels: Let go of what you think you are.

Rest in silence: Move behind the busy activity of the thinking mind.

Be simple: Exist without trying to prove or figure out life.
