The dangers of pursuing money in career instead of passion.

I was thinking and contemplating this issue and i realized that career and work takes hours and hours each day. If you aren't passionate or have some affinity with your work it can get really risky. The trap many people fall into is finishing high school young and dumb then entering university, choosing a major just because it pays well. This is more dangerous than trying crack. When you're naive you think that's a good strategy, but upon contemplation, you realize that as a human being if your career isn't fulfilling you, you'll fall prey to all sorts of traps which end up hurting you in your search of happiness and fulfillment. Think of happiness as a spectrum, happiness on one end, and suicidal depression on the other, and in between all sorts of dysfunctions and pathologies and addictions and so on... 

Happiness and fulfillment aren't optional in life. They are fundamental to your well being and not falling into self destructive behaviors. And it is simply impossible to be happy working a career you hate and isn't motivated by and not passionate about.

I agree when I work on businesses I'm not interested in it's very hard for me to be disciplined and follow through long term beyond a couple of months since I don't actually really give a fuck about what I'm doing.

My passion projects have always gotten me better results, I'm trying to double back on that philosophy with the game project I'm working on at the moment. 

How is the music going? I think if that's your passion then you should triple down on that and there are many ways to make a lot of money in that industry.

@LordFall I'm putting music a bit to the side currently, focusing on Italian literature which would be my major in university. I want to continue making music in the future though, but for now it isn't a priority. I have many interests in life other than just music, Italian literature being one of them, I want to read more and nurture this passion further. I also want to get a part-time job soon to have pocket money and be able to go out more and do pick up successfully as well as purchase better equipment for making music. I was at the club yesterday with my friend, I did like 15 approaches, today i did one approach as well. The hard thing in pick up is gaining momentum by going out consistently. This is what gets you a lot of results.

That's sick, yes once you start to gain a lot of momentum while continuously improving then you can become truly unstoppable.

That's an interesting vocation, tell me more about Italian literature I'm not too familiar with it

@LordFall I'm new to it as well, but like I enjoy reading and writing as well as Italian being my favorite language of the ones I speak. Also, my favorite subject in school was French literature, therefore it sounded a natural choice to make to choose Italian literature as a major.

Very cool. I'm not that well versed in literature but Lota is based in 17th century Italy and when I asked AI it told me Giambattista Basile was one of the most relevant figures in that era. If you find stuff that would be cool to share I would be happy to discuss.

Usually I align more with philosophers and intellectuals due to my logical brain. Lucilio Vanini seems like an interesting guy to research, he was dabbling in similar subjects to what we talk about here and he got burned at the stake for it.

The Republic of Letters was a network of intellectuals around that time that corresponded through letters to build thought along the early modern period. Rene Descartes was part of them along with one of my new favorite historical figures; Christina Queen of Sweden who moved to Rome in 1655.

Doing only what you are passionate about is fine, as long as it makes you money or you have enough money outside of it. And money definitely aren't going away anywhere, ever, as long as you need or want other people to do stuff for you. Which we all want/need. Having money is not guaranteed nor owed really, so it makes you wonder how much more important actually is this feeling of passion you feel like you need to have, compared to just focusing on the money
