We already have laws where the mere sight of something is so offensive that we put you in jail for it (indecent exposure, which in the legal definition requires deliberation, hence it could be considered as a form of evil). Apparently, ugly people do not meet that requirement (we don't make them cover up their face or whatever makes them ugly and if they don't, we throw them in jail).

zooming out on this point about preferences, we see the same pattern with animals. We like some animals more than other because of how they look.
