Canadian Prime Minister On Rejecting US Trade Negotiations

69 posts in this topic

@Schizophonia I think problem we have right now is Trump’s choices and blatant corruption and bullying of every nation. He has the power and he makes choices.

There may be wider considerations of keeping the US as strong as it used to be. But, his corruption, poor choices, ignorance, ego, old age, lack of education and experience, lack of integrity and sub optimization has hurt the world and US.

The strongest nations a level headed and have good leadership. Xi, from China is a good example of a great world leader.

Trump has hurt so many people it’s shameful. He uses people like Lash Patel and that blond woman… so crazy.

@Thought Art Don't waste your time thinking about Trump. He will come and go and relations with Canada will renormalize after a sane President returns.

Foreign leaders need to not panic and not take Trump too seriously. They need to wait him out of office. You can't negotiate with a lunatic.

Carney's team is making some pretty big blunders though. An analysis of their recent negotiations strategy only leave them at a 68/100

68% was not an acceptable grade for me growing up in my household and it certainly is not for a head of state. Above a 90 is mandatory or you're not doing the job right.

@LordFall Who scored it? Reading it looks like AI, and not integrative enough. I don’t give that score authority.

Yes I had Gemini analyze his actions in negotiation this trade war.

What would you rate him /100 and based on what? I think AI is great at synthezing information and giving us a baseline to go on. We can break it down further if you disagree with Geminis conclusion.

@LordFall maybe I’ll give you a relative score in 10-20-30 year increments from now.

Be careful of your AI use, I think. It can mislead you because it’s inputs and prompts don’t always match reality. The response you’ve shared it weird and it’s unclear the scope, depth and even accuracy of the response.

For example one I’ll point out is it says canada didn’t  remove inter provincial trade barriers… but there are now no federal trade barriers to inter provincial trade. So it’s using out dated context.

Another is the mirroring of Chinese Tarriffs was done in 2024 by Justin Trudeau, so out dated and misleading.

The inflation reduction act was in 2022 and Justin Trudeau…

OVERALL, sloppy garbage shit AI post.

Even the opening line in your AI is false. He is the Prime Minister. Not whatever that task force is. We have task forces which are chaired by others.

Scary weird AI screen shot man.

Lol yeah that was definitely a hallucination moment. Some of your rebuttals are off base though.

There are still plenty of trade barriers currently hurting our GDP to the tune of tens of billions annually. The Canadian Free Trade Agreement ameliorated some of it, but the friction is definitely not resolved.

Carney didn't just inherit these policies in a vacuum, he has been Prime Minister since early 2025 and actively chairs the government defending them. More importantly, Washington doesn't negotiate with individual personalities; it negotiates with the Canadian state. Whether an unforced error like the Digital Services Tax or billions in reactive EV subsidies was passed under Trudeau or retained under Carney, it is Carney's administration that has to defend the balance sheet and bear the retaliatory cost at the CUSMA table today.
