DEALING WITH GAMGLING ADDICTION WITHDRAWLS

6 posts in this topic

I haven’t been in this form in almost 6 years. I used to be super active with actualized.org but not as much like I used to be. I am 29 turning 30 this year. And have been dealing with gambling addiction for almost 4 years. I spend most of my 20s working at a low paying job saved my way up 100k and lost 40k gambling. I had set a state ban for 5 years in my state which was a big step for me. My problem is I’m on day 1 and I’m dealing with reality on how much time I had lost and I’m about to be 30. I thought I could be rich off gambling I was wrong I was chasing a feeling that I had control I didn’t. I buy Leo life purpose course 8 years ago and never used it. I’m terrified for my future I feel like I let my family down and I don’t know how to deal with all this emotion? How do you deal with you feel like a failure?

I ask, "what would you tell someone like your little brother or son that would be going through this"

My answer is " it's okay, none of that really matters, I love you, I'm sorry you're having such a hard time", i would hug them and just be with them, I tell myself that, speaking to myself, loving myself. I think about what really matters, quality time. I think about what I'm grateful for.

Everything in moderation sounds right, but when you have a real addiction it is the worst advice.  To solve a real addiction that is causing real harm, you have to bite the bullet and quit entirely forever.

my father had this and unfortunately in order to stop the addiction he replaced it with other addictions. I don't know how I can help but I would suggest to go to a community (a center maybe?) about addictions, in which people talk about this stuff. That's what my psychologist suggested to my father at least.

Don't judge yourself, but your naturally going to feel stupid when you made a stupid choice. Don't suppress your emotions. Just deal with them as they come. Running away from discomfort is often what motivates addiction in the first place.

You say you saved your way to 100k and spent 40k of it gambling, that sucks but you still got 60k. If we can believe in what you're claiming, you're not really starting from zero
