God realization versus out of body experiences?

9 posts in this topic

I'll be honest... Thus far I have not been able to do out of body experiences (OBE). But from what I can gather the insights people develop from OBE and God realizations show a lot of similarities.

For instance, the idea that the world we live in is a dream / illusion.

I'm curious for those that have had better luck having OBEs how it compares to God realization. Is it necessary to be able to do it. I find the idea very interesting and I sometimes get the feeling that God realization might be a conceptual cope at times -- particularly if you are not able to even leave your body OBE style.

I know there are people in this community that are able to do it. I myself have never really had hallucinations or altered states that lead to a fundamentally different experience of reality -- not visually anyway. Like yes, there are deep insights but it remains mostly within the realm of my own psychological experience -- I think for 5MeO users it is similar.

i haven't fully experienced either but have had glimpses of both.

in my understanding, the two are quite distinct. you don't "need" one to experience the other.

during an OBE you still experience yourself as a separate entity travelling through non-physical dimensions. but there can also be experiences of unity/God realisations occurring during these journeys.

God realisation is the dissolution of the sense of a separate self (basically you flip inside out and become everything). leaving the physical body is not necessary; rather, God realisation is a metaphysical recontextualisation of what it means to be/have a body in the first place. the body can still be here as part of your consciousness, no problem with that. your visual field doesn't have to change for God realisation to occur, either - of course it can, but that's not the core of it.

I can sort of have out of body experiences if I really work at it for weeks . Like if I replaced my whole kriya yoga routine with the gateway experience tapes I could prolly start having random obes within a month or two, not worth it imo, kriya yoga is too good , God realization is better. If you wanna have an obe just smoke some dmt.

@Oppositionless do OBEs occur for you shortly after falling asleep or shortly before waking up? is there a relation to how light your sleep is, how well you remember dreams, or a tendency to experience sleep paralysis?

Nice I’ve been into gateway and breath work lately.

I did Kriya a bit but lacked the discipline to do it. My kechari mudra is still decent. Actually my copy of Kriya Yoga exposed is arriving this afternoon in the mail.

@PenguinPablo i looked into it briefly and basically from a neurological pov, an OBE is a sensory mismatch when your brain receives (or produces?) conflicting information on how the body is positioned in space. (and of course it can get much deeper than that, but that's the basics.)

i get this a lot when i take afternoon naps and my sleep is very light. that's when i'd be prone to getting close to waking up but my body is still asleep, and sometimes i confuse bodily sensations or feel as though there is the sleeping body and my other body with which i can be in slightly different positions. this has also gone as far as feeling as though i got up and walked through my apartment, only to realise that i had done so in a dream-like state and my real body was still in bed.

Do you do partial kechari or full kechari?

Before falling asleep . Most likely to occur if I'm awake late, 3 am seems to be the time it's likely to occur . They usually aren't very remarkable , I think the really spectacular life changing obes you hear about are likely down to genetics .
