I probably have ADHD - Worried about my life quality

3 posts in this topic

I was making new friends this year when a lot of them mentioned from my very energetic and fidgety behaviour I probably have ADHD. Looking at the signs, even though I haven't had a prescription yet, I probably do.

I'm worried about how this will affect my quality of life. Will it stop me from actualizing my Life Purpose? Will it stop me from reaching Liberation? God-Realization? Will it stop me from doing all the things I want to do? I genuinely can discipline myself, but probably having a mental disorder is distressing.

I would take meds but I'm worried about my health and also the energy from ADHD assists in giving me - as a person with 18 years of life experience - top 1% charisma.

It's good to be on top of it early if you do have it. Just being self-aware of how ADHD makes you behave can help you manage the worst of it. And ADHD can be debilitating in certain aspects, like a propensity for being a workaholic and neglecting your personal life. Or impulse control. Or needing accomodation like extra time during exams (which you can request if you have diagnosis).

Never ever take seriously a layman using the words "ADHD" to describe someone casually in a conversation. If you have no problems in your life, don't create problems by thinking you have some.

There is "ADHD" and then there is ADHD. The former is a label you put on people who are hyper or high energy. The latter you label people who struggle deeply with various things and with getting certain things done.

And even if you get a diagnosis, there can be a lot of bullshit around it and you might be not as bad off as somebody else with the same diagnosis. Some people hunt down an ADHD diagnosis to get a drug prescription because they have simply convinced themselves they fit the diagnosis and they think it will make their life easier when in reality they are more likely simply unhealthy or broken in other ways.
