Just simply wrong.

Unfortunately he's not wrong. Self validation and social validation is a mirror to each other. How are you able to truly self validation if you don't have anything to reference to? Social validation provides you a lot of information, obviously not all of it is good info but a good chunk of it is.

There’s a bunch of people living in solitude just fine, and are probably more happy than many of us.

For most people tho, yes getting approval runs them deeply. But that’s because they are unconscious and immature.

I imagine myself playing the social games max 5-10 years more, and then I’ll probably be in solitude too. At least for a good period.

We'll always need some form of external social validation. Otherwise we'd do dumb stuff and get in trouble with our tribe

@YIDIRYIDIR What does your necessary really mean?

social validation is not a psychological need we have, you can be rejected, misunderstood, outcasted and still be happy and psychologically fulfilled.

No I mostly disagree with you. Validation doesn't only mean that you're desperate for approval. It means that your peers approve of your contribution to the group. If you don't contribute positively to the group what do you spend your days doing? Even this whole forum is only possible because a large of us validate Leo's work otherwise he would be like a random dude saying random stuff on the internet that nobody relates to.

that's a different thing, social validation in this context is a strategy, it is functional and has nothing to do with psychological dependency. and i agree, survival requires validation, in business and career, that's literally the game being played of who's valid most to a certain group of people (Leo's work example)

yeah exactly, playing validation games are a choice, not something we depend on.

But that's only a survival strategy, not a phycological dependency. you can totally choose not to play those tribal/social games, if they're not necessary for your survival.

I get where you're coming from. If you can opt out of those games, it makes sense it wouldn't be necessary for your survival. However, I don't see how that is a possibility, unless you had a way of surviving in an isolated forest.

But that's the thing, you can live like that and be fulfilled. once you know that, you become free of social validation, and you get to do actually what you want to do without any external pressure.

social validation is like an addiction, being rejected of socially misaligned feels like withdrawal at first, it is painful but after that it is freeing as fuck. it's just most people are deep in that addiction.
