pressure of choosing a name for a website/blog

10 posts in this topic

hi there:)

so i'm still going back and forth on whether to start that recipe blog or write a cookbook.

either way, i am noticing that there's so much pressure when choosing a potential name (for example for a website).

would such a name be permanent or could it be changed later on?

how do i decide on a name that doesn't feel weird to me? i could just do my full name, but i'm not sure if i am comfortable with that, either. and anything else with some catchy terms thrown together also seems weird.

if i am trying to simply get started without overthinking it, i feel like real depth to my vision is lacking. but if i wait until the vision is there, i'll just sit around and procrastinate on the whole thing.

What about "[firstname]iscooking" or something along those lines...

You can start with your name or variations of it and change it down the road whenever you feel a rebrand is fitting. The important thing is starting and setting the pieces in motion. Provide value, let others find your work, have fun and learn. You can also use Claude for brainstorming but no need to get hung up on the name part.

This can be done now, with the vision created or refined along the way.

Just jot some key points down about what you want to do with the project and what you hope it will help others with, and put it into action.

It is a pain to change so choose it well the first time.

But since you are just playing around, don't overthink it. Better to have something than nothing.

If you are running a proper business you want to a firm and solid name.

@Leo Gura when did you come up with "actualized.org" ? were you immediately certain that it's the right domain name?

I spent years creating and buying domain names. Not for Actualized but beforehand. So I had a lot of experience selecting names by then.

You can always change it especially because your true bottleneck will be your work ethic, marketing skills and content production skills. Start today and post/write something everyday instead of overthinking a name. Even Facebook changed their whole brand name and product name and they're fine big companies do it all the time. Your competitive advantage relies in your output and your skillset not your company name.

Call it Judy's blog there you go. or Judy Cuisine if you want it more themed and post something today and share it with us.

Choose one and change it later if you feel it's a good thing to do.
