I think a lot of this male resentment is more about a lack of belonging and feeling culturally rejected rather than dating necessarily being too hard, in large part due to feminism. To be fair, that is a serious political and cultural issue which will and has fed into authoritarianism.

Dating is obviously harder now for a large portion of men. Women were previously socially dependent on men, they're allowed to be independent now.

Women not being dependent on relationships anymore means that general availability is higher. You're more likely to meet someone who has been in a previous relationship/married today. In a previous age those women would have stayed in those relationships and not been available to you in the first place.

It's cope to complain about women being too independent. A relationship is about more than just resources.

Women used to feel more pressured to participate in casual sex, to find a long term partner. Women's liberation is still ongoing, hopefully culminating soon into actual equality(this includes equality for men as the 'provider')

You do it texting or while on a instant date. 

There is no reason to give attention before showing your true intentions and desires.

I'd say one big factor is that tech allows for people to suppress negative emotions. Previously, it was harder to suppress negative emotions, so emotions led to more action. For example, feeling loneliness led to more social behaviour. Now, loneliness is much easier to suppress with tech.

That is my hypothesis.
