From what I gathered and what I learned, narcissism specifically is a developmental arrest or retardation. Basically it's a fragile and unstable sense of self that needs constant sources of validation to prop up a false ego. It's quite sad. Imagine the inability to hold paradox, black and white thinking, immense defense mechanisms that go unconsciously and are projected outwards? Holy shit.

People are not a statistic. They are particular. Mental illness does lead to violence in plenry of cases.

Watch those police cam videos. Many of those violent people are mentally ill. You can clearly see they are mentally unhinged before they attack the police.

Of course mentally ill people become addicts, because the drugs is the only relief they have from their painful condition.

Something like 33% of homeless street people have schizophrenia and are often addicts.

What I don't fully understand is why Nick Reiner refused to take his antipsychotic medication when he absolutely needed it.

Antipsychotics often have negative side-effects so people often don't want to take them.

They are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

The cure is sometimes worse than the disease. Obviously not in this case.

Yeah, I get that, but they still make a major positive difference for themselves.

People with Bipolar disorder, often don't want to take mood stabilizers because they don't want to lose that "high" feeling, but taking mood stabilizers is still necessary for their own good.

Patients may also have to do some trial and error with their psychiatrist to figure out which exact medicine brand and dosage is best for them.

It actually isn’t common for people with schizophrenia to committ violence.

I suspect he purposefully stopped taking his meds so he could use that as a legal defense after killing his parents.

Doesn't make sense.

Killing your parents is a mentally ill thing to do. That's not something you plan out.

Dude, he has both a serious case of schizophrenia and major drug addiction. He is clearly very mentally unstable and has refused to take his antipsychotic medication for his mental instability. 

This was very likely not some kind of premeditated murder. It was much more likely due to insanity and an extremely poor impulse in that moment.

He has reportedly hired the best lawyer in town who will go for the insanity defense to get him off.  All the money in the world can’t buy mental health, but it can get you a good lawyer to get you off.  This is the one area where money makes a dramatic difference in a capitalistic system.  The Schizophrenia diagnosis generally doesn’t work for those with less resources.

I'm not a parent so I can't relate, but man, why go so far to try and nurture an offspring who is so mentally ill?

Reportedly, Rob had told someone that he was afraid of his son and what he was capable of. Well, why give him home and shelter? Rob did everything for him when he was a child through adulthood to get him the help he needs. It never broke through, there was always a relapse.

At that point where you exhausted all means, just let the offspring go for your own health and safety. Sometimes the neurons just don't fire right, it happens, humans are complex organisms. But those who self-destruct repeatedly aren't worth trying to save.

That kid got pampered too much. If his parents weren't mega millionaires he would have died homeless in the streets. He probably burned through millions of their wealth.
