@Elliot what say you?

He's just another Republican, nothing to lose sleep over. Vote, party at the marches, talk to people about politics, nothing new. I'm optimistic there will be positive backlash, I'm not buying stock right now, and will pile in at the crash I expect. Just another day.

Police state.

Functionally, this is normalising the use of the military against its own civilians, which is a core requirement of a fascist state. - That is the biggest long-term issue this has caused for Americans.

Demonizing:

Transgender
Immigrants
Homelessness

Then you've got Poor
Gay
Women
Black and Brown skinned people, etc to come, for whom the social and cultural groundwork is being laid by:

Speaking on no female voting, reversal of gay marriage, strong Christian-led nationalist institutions being funded, stoking racial tensions by the use of white nationalist thugs in uniform (ICE) storming into schools and holding families up at gunpoint. The ever stigma against being poor, where the American god is the dollar, which can always be leveraged (and is in the tariff war, where the poor are the ones who suffer).

He's already started on his political opponents, arresting them where possible, and thugs that support him are threatening them or killing them.

America is a dangerous place, not somewhere I want as an ally or influence anymore. The less Europe is entangled with America or BRICS, the better.

The fact this is normalised by some of the replies here shows me what to expect from America in the coming decade.

Funny how all the 2nd amendment people all through my life were all like "yeah we need guns and need to safeguard our democracy from a tyrannical government." And now there is one and they are in support of it... The lies and deceptions of the fascist MAGA right is truly disgusting and one for the history books. I really hope sensible people will wake up and truly come down on this movement and it's main supporters. I'm not holding my breathe though. What's even more shocking is how close half of the people in my life are just a stone throw away from being Nazis. Never would of guessed to be honest. Guess half of us really are fucked in the head and the only safegaurd from the darker tendencies of humanity is a thin line of norms called common curtesy and respect. Christianity is truly a joke by the way too.

Meanwhile, MAGAs are shocked that their family and friends have cut them off for participating in our version of a Nazi movement.

I think (but who knows)

that many let’s say MaGa were so fed up with politics that they just wanted to throw a wrench.

Because although Maga are crooks. It’s not like they are the root of evil.

US supporting Israel no questions asked. Starting forever wars. Regime changes. Destroying the middle class. Unions. Moving jobs to Asia. Destroying movements. Rent getting unaffordable. Trying to destroy Bernie. Etc. is all before MagA.

Republicans have always used the military against Americans, google 'Kent State Massacre' Republicans had unarmed student protesters gunned down by the national guard. Google 'Civil rights movement, national guard', 'union busting'. They've always used the national guard to kill unarmed Americans.

This is annoying to me, I keep hearing this.

Liberals can buy a fucking gun and protect themselves, fight for themselves. Conservatives obviously don't have guns to protect liberals or fight a Conservative dream.....

For what it's worth, I'm willing to give much more leeway to 19 year old kid who got suckered because they saw some Joe Rogan clips pop up in their YouTube feed.

I'm far less willing top extend that leeway to folks who remember the shitshow that was the fascist cheeto's first term. Watched him attempt a violent insurrection at the US Capital. Heard him say that he was going to be a 'dictator on day one'. And said to themselves "more of that please".

I'm also pissed at the folks who sat this election out because of they couldn't be bothered to vote for the most clear case of the lesser of two evils in the history of US politics, but I'm not going to place them in the same bucket as literal fascists.

The difference is this is a heavily politicized repeated use of the National Guard and other federal institutions under the direct orders of the White House against the citizens of the country throughout major cities.

Its taking rare incidents or overreaches of federal control and not only normalising them but doing so for political gain.

That to me, has completely sealed the country as a police state.

It's always a police state under Republicans, Reagan, an NRA conservative literally banned guns because black panthers had them.

President Richard Nixon deployed the force in 1970 in response to the Postal Strike that was the first and largest walkout ever against the federal government. Most recently, President George H.W. Bush in 1992 called on Guard members to respond to the 1992 Rodney King riot

That's some impressive sourcing and i'll concede some of what you are saying to be true, but have you noted how far apart the dates you've given me are compared to the recent repeat use of the national guard? Its early to call this a pattern but if it bumps his polls, there is nothing stopping him from doing this repeatedly, whereas in eras gone by even his own party would have had something to say.

Well let’s be real here many liberals are sort of effeminate and won’t buy a guy. They aren’t exactly the kind of people I’d bet on when it comes to solving things with violence….

I mean that one guy on the left only has to raise that assault rifle he has and he will kill like 30 people in a minute or less… I don’t see liberals armed with the gear those guys have. And I wouldn’t put it past republicans to tell them to open fire. It maybe sounds really far fetched now but let’s say we continue to spiral down… I could see stuff like this being spun as the protestors being terrorists or something.

Gosh. That was all old white hippies fighting back against those ice creams.

It’s wild how the US remained to be the hegemon with all those internal problems.

What does that have to do with anything? It's not going to happen

Any of those people can buy a Walmart AR in 30 minutes, 1,000 rounds and kill every ICE, their armor is only for handgun ammunition not rifle ammunition, it's essentially a costume. You think if ice starts shooting people, people wouldn't start ambushing ice, you don't watch the news.
