How to follow your intuition in life ?

28 posts in this topic

I contemplated for 35 minutes - How to follow my intuition in life ? The answers that I got .
- By following my strong thoughts
-By first thinking through the consequences of my intuition
-By only following my strong feelings
-By acting according to strong internal anticipation
-By moving according to my internal compass
-By realising that my internal compass is better predictor of success than external forces
- By realising that intuition is different from being lost in thinking

That's interesting, in my experience it's a skill that you hone by trusting it more. Start with less consequential things. I don't know when it started but at some point, I started believing in intuitive Ideas more. And the more I started trusting it the more it got better. Some days I play around with it by keep predicting inconsequential things, like many times I feel like I will get a call from this person right now out of blue. And I get it. :D I don't think our mind knows much about how we work.

However it's very easy to fall prey to "self fulfilling prophecies", or getting overly involved with the outcomes. It's like trusting the intuition but having a set of open eyes to see beyond it.:)

@Ramanujan I didn't know that Stephen Covey also wrote about intuition. But contemplation is a far more important tool than any book.

@Ramanujan I have also read books but I found that thinking for yourself or contemplation is a great tool. Even those people who wrote books they experimented with their ideas through reflecting etc. which is the essence of contemplation. I am not talking about following leo but following oneself.

contemplation is nice and cool . but it is not the only thing in town.

some of leos ideas are not battle tested enough

if i were you , i would rely on more battle tested ideas

So if you are talking about battle tested ideas then have you read Stoicism? I mean the original works.

And what's your progress reading  those books by Stephen Covey or someone else could please share.

By the way I have read 13 books which include books from self-help and philosophy.

i listen to my consious and follow it

one need to put in a lot of work to educate your intuition.

you will fuck up  a lot in the begining . but stephen covey put other things to balance the intuition , like self awareness , indipendent will ,creative imagination

That's nice. As per Stoicism I think that it's been hyped up nowadays but original works like meditations by Marcus Aurelius etc. are still valuable.

For me, the way to sharp intuition is by serious feedback mechanisms after following through your intuition.

By burning your feet in the fire of truth is that a solid and sharp intuition is developed.

God-Realize, this is First Business. Know that unless I live properly, this is not possible.

There is this body, I should know the requirements of my body. This is first duty.  We have obligations towards others, loved ones, family, society, etc. Without material wealth we cannot do these things, for that a professional duty.

There is Mind; mind is tricky. Its higher nature should be nurtured, then Mind becomes Wise, Virtuous and AWAKE. When all Duties are continuously fulfilled, then life becomes steady. In this steady life GOD is available; via 5-MeO-DMT, because The Sun shines through All: Living in Self-Love, Realizing I am Infinity & I am God

I found theres a specific strong bodily feeling for my intuition that I notice in my gut and body. Overtime ive needed to learn to differentiate that from fear

Intuition is kind of domain specific. Whatever realms you like to dwell in, that’s the realm your intuition will develop in. I used to enjoy analyzing human psychology, behavior, and motives. As a result, I developed high intuition in that area, but this does not transfer over to the stock market, lol.

Whatever you want to get good at intuiting, you have spend time in that realm observing, asking questions, making predictions, reviewing and fixing your mistakes.

If we’re talking about developing the intuitive faculty itself as to be more robust in general, I’m not sure how much one can develop that, but if you could, developing metacognition seems like it could be a force multiplier.

Also, I think it’s in the way you use your mind. For example, I noticed that when I observe a dog’s behavior, if I see it do something that I don’t understand, I immediately begin trying to solve that puzzle.  I might spend 30 seconds contemplating it’s behavior before I come up with some reasons to explain it. I might come up 3 reasons but can confirm neither, but I will choose (predict) what I think the answer is.

Then, in the future when more data comes in, I will eventually be able to solve the mystery, and because I went through the process of contemplation and prediction, it all gets lodged in my head somewhere and pops back up the moment the data I need to solve the mystery shows up.

Constantly treating reality like this would give you relatively high intuition. Most people don’t give a shit about why the dog did what it did, but I want to know. As a result, I can predict dog’s behavior and know what’s going on with it in a split second.

I have a feeling high intuition is strongly correlated with high Need for Cognition and metacognition.

So I think a lot of it has to do with asking questions non stop and trying to find the answer but not jumping to conclusions. Leaving the possibilities on the table, waiting for them to be confirmed or removed.

@Joshe Asking questions to oneself is not only great in developing intuition but also an important life skill which improves other areas of life.

@Davino and @Jacob Morres great answers .

i guess your option is to check out the book yourself

its a very good book on time managment.

also if we take MBTI into consideration , intuition is something you are born with. people are born with a greate intuition or are sensors with poor intuition . look into MBTI too for more info on intuition
