How Long Before Going to Sleep Do You Stop Using Screens?

9 posts in this topic

Yup. That's the Q

For me, lately, it has been right up till I knock out

Obv not optimal for healthy sleep

Do y'all stick to a strict rule like "no screens for 30min/1hr b4 bed?"

If not, how do you wind down at night? Read a book, have a wank, beathwork, etc.?

I sleep at 10.15pm and permit 10-10.15 as last screen time where I quickly check and deal with some news, emails, texts. The period 8-10pm, I allow for entertainment so that's screen time too but it's passive consumption. The hours 5-8pm are for dinner and meditating. So for me the evening is all a gradual wind-down of screen time.

About 90 minutes or so - I do books and then 30 minutes of meditation into sleep.

This post is reminding me not to go near dark chocolate right before the meditation - the caffeine definitely has an effect.

But MAN - the dreams are fun as fuck! Wack

Deal with the issue now, on your terms, in your control. Or the issue will deal with you, in ways you won't appreciate, and cannot control.

I use nova relaxing music + combined with asmr videos. Then switch off the screen when I'm sleepy.

Honestly I think I should just copy your pattern, seems very helpful to wind down.

Thank you all. I believe not being on the phone in the minutes/hours leading up to sleep is paramount for good sleep.

Thank you for your attention to this matter! Lol

@samijiben

You might be curious to know - screens before sleep reduce the quality as well as duration (for myself).

I track how I sleep because I take it very seriously. Shit sleep makes every moment a pain. Good sleep means I enjoy picking up dogshit even :P

If I don't wind down and remove screens for at least 1hr my REM and deep sleep is lowered.

ymmv - tracked with a Garmin so take it with a grain of salt

@Natasha Tori Maru

Yes, thank you, no grain of salt neccesary. With your input & anecdotes plus all the scientific studies out there, isn't it  just str8 fax that screens screw with sleep?

And yet here I am texting you past my bedtime 💀

I think I gotta bash my phone.

I can go to sleep regardless of screen time. Doesn't take me long to fall asleep. All that screen time stuff doesn't affect me one bit, not even a little bit.

What you know leaves what you don't know and what you don't know is all there is.
