Ego is a habit

7 posts in this topic

I have had many times where I was sure I got it.

My ego was no longer active and my experience was full of bliss.

Then I got distracted by worldly pursuits , and after a while...

I was back to how I operated before.

The enlightenment had passed and my ego was back.

Enlightenment is not a permanent attainment but rather a state of being.

I use the words "state of being" here because I find no other words to describe it.

The point being that it must be maintained.

The ego is like a habit.

To completely stop this habit requires time and great care.

And it can come back.

So don't stop at enlightenment.

Enlightenment is a way of being.

Being free of the self.

Being free of the mind.

You see the ego for what it is, not what you need it to be.

@Theplay you might be wrong. maybe you never reached enlightenment, but only 'my experience was full of bliss'. Might be different, consider.

In my experience, the ego does not arise as such. It's Freedom. All I can say.

No, it is not a habit but you are close

After i wrote the answer to tell you what it is. In very short sentences,  i realised it will become a hited arguments or be ignored. In both cases i don't have the energy to debate or teach it or don't want to wake it up.

How do i know this? I don't.

Yes , it's openess. If the opening closes, it is closed. What it is about is achieving the greatest openness for the longest time. Identify what closes you, understand the structure of your mind to open yourself up. It is totally obvious when it happens.

Surprisingly there actually isn't a "you" and then another thing called "your ego"

Both are "illusions of self" which are completely and clearly seen through upon the so-called experience of liberation.

Whatever happens after that is completely fair game.

Action and non action or doing and not doing is recognized as one in the same or dancing emptiness!!!

Empty and full simultaneously

It's just not something that's attained or gained after a certain amount of spiritual practice or anything like that.

It's not an attainment at all infact......it's the dropping away of that conditioned character that is trying to attain it or rather the revelation that it was never real from the start.

Yep, just the clear recognition that this heavily conditioned "ME" character out running the rat race is not actually there

It's kind of unexpected for obvious reasons. 😅

@Theplay That's only halfway there. True enlightenment doesn't discriminate between ego and non-ego – that discrimination is already ego.
