The censorship wave of YouTube.

34 posts in this topic

Your thouthts and views? Can censorship be too much? For example visual novels showing some sexy scenes, drawn very well, are being censored despite being just drawings. Is that too much? Has society developed too softly? Has politics made almost everyone sensitive?

Also, when will Leo upload a video? Been 6 months already.

Politics didn't make anyone sensetive in terms of Youtube. It's Youtube's own politics to refuse or cancel&censor the content. It's not like the users or consumers are in the charge of youtube. It's a top down hierarchy seeking it's own benefit.

Yay for some, nay for others.

No,it's more than just yay or nay for others. I've drawn human anatomy, naked subjects, and read doujins and draw some, and nude scenes or sex scenes don't phase me that much, yet when I watch a streamers YT playing some visual novel, complains about the uncensored version, I find out the uncensored version, watch the uncensored version, and it's just vanilla sex, I just cringe because this player is a teacher, an adult, white, and an otaku, yet has this immature take of adult scenes. I get it and understand if it's fear of being censored yet he talks like the uncensored version is the worst. No it's not. And to give an ignorant opinion that the authors and designers don't know what they're doing is insulting to me. I researched how visual novels are made, and it's not sime 1 month project and boom done and sold. There's a lot of brainstorming, ideas generation, outlining of the project, coding and programming of bgm and other music types, voice acting(hiring or voicjng characters and sound effects yourself), character and background design(especially if it's deawn by you), editing, troubleshooting, and many more going unto making and producing visual novels that it's downright dismissive because this perso  is such a softie. Like WTF?

Maybe all this is because I'm home staying, am not as busy with my own LP, and have more limited ways to unwind and relax, and tired of waiting  for new Actualized.org videos.

Alright, first  we can't do too much about this situation.

It's very hard to find a good teacher, is he teaching for his own benefit or yours? Because in my experience it can't be both and if it's not for your benefit than he is not a teacher.

Just don't keep your expectations sky high for youtube. Look for new ways.

To clarify, my complaint is that this censorship wave is amplified by political ideologies outside of YT. Remember that Google bought YT, and Google, despite it being a big tech company, has a political lean to the left. So when the censorship wave happened, YT channels that deal with mature themes, and adult drawings and animations, despite going through proper guidelines, are either shadow banned or outright taken down. Even though YT is a big social media videi platform, outside politics still influences it to be too censor heavy.

Stoicism? That I have control of my own behaviours, but not of people and worldly circumstances? I get that a bit, but it's hard to follow in practice.

Let me explain that teacher a bit. I'm currently watching YT channel of some gamer/streamer named Tannerofthenorth, who's an Otaku with eirher full time or part time teaching. One of his videos he complained of an uncensored scene. I became curious, investigated, and disappointed because the sexy scene was vanilla at best. Why am I not that offended by sexy scenes? Because I draw human anatomy and sometimes draw naked subjects, among other subject matter, so I can appreciate the beauty of the art and design of the scene, while he cannot. Plus him saying it's the worst scene ever I simply disagree with strongly. It's basically a scene in fate stay night where Rin and Shirou are doing this magical transfer, via sex magic. It really is vanilla, and I have an intuition hunch that this guy is socialist/progressive of the online Twitch social media version, and his lack of dating and being a virgin is why he's so triggered by some vanilla sex scene.

IMO, he's softie and a whinge. I can't help but say go and draw some naked subjects and human anatomy, plus him complaining about the authora and designers not knowing whag they're doing? Big softie. I at least am working in my LP, qnd getting more responsible for myself.

Not much choice on the matter. I'm sttuck on home staying and taking care of cats, so in this situation I'm distracting myself with YT visual novels I guess. I still will take opportunities to train my LP and skills for my LP, currently that's visual analysis of art pictures as I'mbusy with house stay and cats.

@Danioover9000 Drawing random traits. no aim just breath, god knows better.

What's your LP, do you really reckon it.

I have a detailed outline of that intbe past, but it's simply to illustrate in comic style, and maybe it involves making visual novels. I have to be flexible in my LP.

@Danioover9000 Check kim jung gi art, I m still in loss, probably forever. A true Legend.

I know of him! Great artist, can draw from beginning to end a complete drawing, from multiple perspectives. Very talented, shame he died of heart attack.

Likewise, check out Kentaro Miura Berserk. It's a great manga, very beautifully drawn and good story.

It just boils down to manipulation. Companies want to be hyper family friendly to maximize profit. It's basically like a door salesman putting on a fake smile to sell you a product. Advertisers don't want their family friendly brand to appear on some super edgy shit like some dudes baking a cake with vomit. All of this actually really started to happen in 2016 with the whole PewDiePie fiber fiasco, where he paid some (Indian?) dudes to hold up a sign saying "Death to all Jews" (he wanted to see if they would do it, he wasn't actually making a political statement or anything). Suddenly all big companies piled up on YouTube and made them get tighter restrictions. I think they were planing to do so from the beginning and needed a straw man. At the same time Coca Cola ads were being shown on alt-right Nazi propaganda. That was also another point they were making. That was when the demonetization crusades began. Anything remotely edgy got demonetized. It was a HUGE financial hit on a lot of YouTubers.

This is what I remember happening. Okay this kind of sounded like I'm an old veteran telling tales of an old battle... lol

But you get the drift. It's all a giant salesman tactic.

I think this hits closer to why I don't like this increase in censorship. It's that aggressive marketing and ads of family friendly platforms going mainstream. Maybe I just intuit the drop in quality when a business starts trying to appeal to everyone?

Embrace the olr veteran telling tales of old battles, embrace the nostalgia. Remember YouTube's national anthem? Trully made me proud being part of YT, what a world it was then:

@Danioover9000 the whole universe keep telling me to do it. Calm down. I m soon capable of understanding Japanese so I'll do.

I even got tbe limited edition omnibus of Berzerk. It's nice to read.

Good luck learning the Japanese language. I heard it's a bit difficult because not only do you have to learn hiragana, but also katakana and the kanji they borrow from the Chinese characters, which means alsk learning a bit of Chinese might help. Reading doujinshi in the Japanese language is actually not that hard because of the reading order and the scenes depicted gives the idea what the symbols refer to.

I think it inherently looses some of the authenticity behind it. Selling you a product isn't about selling you an idea about the product. There are many ideas YouTube is trying to sell, but by trying to appeal to certain demographics, it looses the demographic that wants to see authentic stuff. But then the question is, where we draw the line of how authentic it should be, and who gets to decide that? We don't want YouTube to turn into live leak.

I think money is a big factor, and a site that is safe for families (how many people just give their kids a phone and have them watch YouTube when they don't want to be bothered), it will be safe for investors. They want to maximize profit, and authenticity isn't the best way to do it. So dealing with this kind of censor ship would require fundamental shifts in our way of doing business.

This is just the epitome of stage orange. Stage orange leeches off of stage blue and green, by virtue signaling to who they think is most profitable. Stage orange is highly individualistic and likes to exploit the group based thinking of the other stages. Because if you understand group based thinking, you understand how to sell something to a lot of people.

Talking about censor ship. Here is a good example of something edgy getting banned because it's probably bad for business. This pickle brand probably wouldn't benefit from being considered edgy. Sometimes being edgy works, Rick & Morty and South Park are good examples, but it depends on the context of who you're trying to appeal to.

Fun story: when I'm extremely bored I read some doujinshi. There are a few really good ones made by UDON YA for the monster hunter game franchise. Some of their doujinshi were english translation, but some are in Japanese, and I wanted to try reading Japanese, so I did the reverse order of learning, I learn the kanji first, then the hiragana and katakana. One particular kanji for words 'chest','milk', 'woman', the kanji shape resembles a bunch of crown strokes ontop of the number 7, and few more strokes. Now every time I see the number 7, scythes or sickles, I think milk.

Inspiration to learn anything can come off odd places.

Don't think it is stoicism, I mean there are things which we simply can't do it.

Fuck softies and I am glad you are working in your LP.

I mean we are only good as our presuppositions.
