Enlightenment or passion, which to chase first?

5 posts in this topic

Should I seek enlightenment before working towards a passion?

I've been on the path of searching for my passion since school about 5 years ago. But, as my values change with my development so does what I want to do in life, ending in much tail chasing.

If I seek a passion what if I find it meaningless once I pursue and obtain enlightenment?

Something that makes you feel good and meanwhile does minimal harm to others is never meaningless. Joy is plenty meaningful.

Unless you plan to do consciousness work for 12 hrs per day, you have time to pursue some passions. See pursuit of passions as a welcomed break from enlightenment work and enlightenment work as a welcomed break from pursuing passions.

“Any kind of consciousness whatever, whether past, future, or present, internal or external, gross or subtle, inferior or superior, far or near — a disciple of mine sees all consciousness as it actually is with proper wisdom thus: ‘This is not mine, this I am not, this is not my self.’” - the Tathāgata
