What does "imaginary" mean?

6 posts in this topic

Some say everything is imaginary

If this is true and everything is imaginary

what does imaginary mean?

Is it a synonym for "everything"   ?

Subjective. Has no real substance behind it, it's based on nothing. Happens completely all on it's own and also paradoxically seems completely controllable. I stop imagining monsters under my bed and they no longer scare me. I stop imagining my bed in deep sleep and nothing bad happens.

It is and means anything you imagine it to be and mean.

I take it to mean that a thing can be brought in and out of existence through the mind. Something along those lines.

It doesn't make much sense to say that everything is imaginary, but i guess it is saying that everything we experience is a cognitive construct. That doesn't help a lot imo, because there is plenty that we can agree exists for real.

Can two people imagine the same thing? If so, how can it be imaginary?

How would you know they've imagined the same thing?

That said, I agree "imaginary" is not the best word for thinged. But it is in the dictionary.

@Nak Khid

Stop blabbermouthing and go do some contemplation.
