Are you saying you are "Enlightened" ?

What do you think? Should I be patient with myself or just quit?

@Mary, I want you to do the following things over the next few days - if you want to - and see what happens:

  • Lower your sitting time to 10-20 minutes
  • sit with your eyes open and look down 3 feet in front of you
  • keep a relatively straight posture, but don't be to clumsy about it

While you keep theses essentials in line, do this: Just sit, let thoughts come and go as they please. Whenever monkey mind gets a little crazy or deep emotions come up, say to them (on the inside) that you are very sorry for them. Tell them, that you are sorry that they have to be so negative and feel right into them. Just let them float. Talk to your body and mind like it's a 5 year old in pain. Bring him to rest, say that you are sorry that life didn't treated him well and be sorry for what will happen in the future. Say to him that any time he wants to say something or express himself, he shall just ask and you let him do that. Reconnect with these feelings and thoughts. Soon enough you'll find out that this is actually the only thing you want to do. Reconnect with your body that cries out for help and is just treated as "lower self", "not worthy", "ego" but keeps the strings in in his hands how you feel. Change that.

And then watch. This will end your suffering.

They want reality, so I give 'em a fatal dosage.

Lots of people here have different ideas for what that means, so I'm not going to answer that question. ;)

@jjer94 So that means no, you're not enlightened.  You don't even know what enlightenment is

@Mary Leo said himself that you will suck at meditation for a pretty long time, it will take time

I have seen improvement in my own life with it

Meditation I think, saved my life

Yet you talk about "enlightenment" as a meaningful reference.

You clearly dont know what you are talking about, do you? Your words contradict themselves, first you take pointers from specialists, then decide (when its convenient for you) that everyone has their own definition.

Nonsense

@Mal xD Lol. You got upset that I ignored your second post, so you decided to dig through my post history to try to prove that I am nonsense. Still stuck in the realm of words, I see?

Of course I am nonsense. We all are. I'm just pointing to stuff and trying to cater to the "stage" of the person I'm writing to. If I contradict myself in some situations that's because it called for it. Just how Leo's old videos contradict his newer ones, and he knows it. He's catering to different people.

Do I contradict myself?
Very well then .... I contradict myself; I am large .... I contain multitudes. ---Walt Whitman

This thread is about someone who's wondering whether or not to meditate. It's not about what enlightenment really is, or whether I'm enlightened. That's why I didn't go into enlightenment definitions. You're just trying to come up with some way to label me. Who the heck cares whether I'm enlightened? That just gives people a silly excuse to see me as an authority, when everybody ought to be their own authority.

I'm not even going to tell you here how I define enlightenment, because it's off-topic. Go make a thread about enlightenment and how you define it, then tag me. I'll be happy to give my perspective there.

Cheers!

I didnt get upset at that.  I got upset because today it clicked what enlightenment is.  So in my eyes I wanted to find out if you were a self proclaimed realizer, and because you gave me that answer about enlightenment meaning different things I pulled up a post where you admit that you are not enlightened.

The fact is, you don't actually know what you're talking about really.  So why all the nonsense and posts on how to be awakened and asserting that "enlightenment" is the pathless path?

I'm not stupid.

@jjer94 I guess I'm trying to point to spiritual ego's who are playing the game of spiritual guru.  Something that I've been advised to watch out for.

What else can I do but voice my concerns?

Like I said before, this is completely off topic. If you want to waste your time and make a "jjer94 debunked" topic along with your other 40 posts per day, be my guest. I'm sure you'll find more loopholes in my post history so you can be hypocritical and point out how "nonsense" I am to gratify your own spiritual ego. A great use of your time, I'm sure.

Cheers mate.

Why do you think this is about my spiritual ego?

I'm using you as an example of one, so I can see it in myself.  Others who are serious about enlightenment will be benefit from this too

As an example, I didn't meditate before I woke up. It was only a year later that I found Do Nothing particularly useful for my situation. I've also been doing it for a month and a half.

What is wrong with being exposed as having a spiritual ego?  I have one, everyone here has one.  If you were awake for 14 months I think by now you could see the humour in this?  Because you have dropped your ego, right?

Im not going to lie I only read halfway through this and decided to respond. Your problem is fundamental. Your looking at meditation to GIVE you something. That's not going to happen.

Its extremely similar to a drug addict going to a drug.

You want an escape.

Meditation will bring you peace. WRONG

what happens is you need to wake up. And what a lot of people don't tell you (because you can't sell it) is that waking up is literally DIFFERENT FOR EVERYONE. Then THAT'S what meditation is for. Ummmm I think the bhuddists called it "right view".

Wake up first. Then trymeditation. This probably doesn't help you though :)

@jjer94 I've heard this pathless path stuff before -> gateless gate(Buddhists), you can't seek enlightenment, you just have to realize what you already are (Eckart Tolle), there is no way of becoming enlightened(Alan Watts)

But if we take your advice, and say that there is no path to enlightenment, then why meditate at all?

Sure it may seem more realistic to say that its a pathless path, and that you can't really do anything to get enlightened because free will doesn't exist(once you've become aware of that fact), but to someone who hasn't realized that yet(me and OP) telling someone on the internet that they shouldn't meditate because everyone is different can potentially stop them from 'realizing' their true self.

This idea that you shouldn't meditate because there's no path in the first place is just an impractical overview in my opinion. Factually speaking, if you don't meditate you will have a much lower chance of getting oops realizing enlightenment. It takes work to get realize your true self, without doing the work, you will end up like everyone else who doesn't meditate, not enlightened.

@99th_monkey Why would anyone choose to wake up then? If it doesn't give you anything? Why choose to pursue enlightenment instead of cutting your arm with a knife? If both give the same benefits?

And how can you just 'wake up'. That's like say just get 1000000 dollars, then become rich.

For some waking up takes work. For others its instant. I'm not at a place where I can help anyone with that.

I can only speak from what my experience has taught me. I can tell you that once you do wake up, (if you go that route), the real work begins. :) who would want to do all this crazy stuff ?lol

And on a side note @jjer94 your new pic is creeping me out bro lol

@electroBeam Hi electro,

I never suggested that you shouldn't meditate. I just pointed out the trap in believing that you should or have to in order to reach enlightenment. You don't. Like I said, how do you get to where and what you already are? Fundamentally, there is no process.

There's a quote from...Carl Sagan? I believe, not sure...but it goes something like: in order to make an apple pie from scratch, you first have to create the universe. In other words, fundamentally no one particular decision or technique has brought you to where you are now. The entire successional flow of the universe has brought you here. Meditation and contemplation for enlightenment work has brought you to where you are just as much as your dump on the toilet two weeks ago.

I'm pointing this out so you don't spend decades of your life meditating with the heavy expectation of an explosion of bliss-enlightenment. We falsely expect these techniques to get us somewhere because ego desires to get to a better place, while the gurus do it because they know it's getting them nowhere. This is it already. It's just a matter of seeing clearly.

Then what's the point of doing these things? Good question. This is where I contradict what I said above with the apple pie, so bear with me.

Meditation, contemplation, spiritual autolysis, mindfulness and all of these other techniques are a hands-on approach to helping you see through your mind-made illusions. By doing these things over and over again, you learn more and more to see what is and see through what is not. That way, you suffer much less from your illusions.

I agree with @99th_monkey that waking up is really the starting point to Self-cultivation, as I like to call it. Self-realization is the easy part. Self-cultivation is the hands-on part, where you slowly release control over your life by seeing through illusions. Ego doesn't want to release control. But by seeing through the illusion of ego, it begins to happen naturally. It's as though Self-realization is the spark that lights the powder keg, and then the fuse burns on its own through Self-cultivation. That's my experience at least.

@99th_monkey I found that in a store. I was hoping the writing on the doll's sticky note would show up because I thought it was funny. It says "y'all need Jesus".:D
