How does music work?

7 posts in this topic

Right now i'm listening to songs i've listened to many times before, but for some reason i'm feeling amazing listening to them right now. Literally these songs are making me feel better than I have in years. The same thing happened to me a few years when i overcame my depression. Music just sounded so good and it got me so inspired. Does anyone else experience this phenomena? Why does the same song feel so much different at different times in our life?

Happens to me too.

Sometimes I get an exaggerated feeling of positive energy and emotions, with heightened awareness when I listen to music while reading the lyrics.

But then I start clinging to that state, and it starts to go away.

I guess gifts feel best when they come out of nowhere.

Music is a HIGHLY complex language!

That means that there are MANY factors to why music makes you feel the way it does.

One factor might be your perspective on life.

Your perspective constantly changes throughout your life. You gain new knowledge. You gain new experience.

Sometimes it changes SO MUCH, that it also changes the way you listen to your favorite songs!

The same thing happened to me a few years when i overcame my depression.

This is a good example.

Coming out of a depression changes your outlook on life. It changes the way you experience life!

And that difference in experience can also affect the way you experience music!

Music is a manifestation of someones interpretation of life. And you are interpreting this manifestation.

Changes in your perspective therefor affect your interpretation of the music.

Let's say you've listened to a lot of sad music while going through a depression.

Listening to the same music now, that you've overcome the depression, would be a whole different experience!

That's one of the beautiful things about music! It changes WITH life!

But as I said... music is HIGHLY complex! There are MANY more factors that make up your experience of music!

@Lento Sometimes music can get you into a very meditative state. But this state is very fragile! Paying too much attention to how you feel, or to the meditative state itself, will get you out of it very quickly. The feeling the music creates within you can easily distract the mind and you'll end up enjoying the feeling of the music instead of the actual music!

@Raptorsin7 Still taking that pharma gaba? lol

How is this post just me acting out my ego in the usual ways? Is this post just me venting and justifying my selfishness? Are the things you are posting in alignment with principles of higher consciousness and higher stages of ego development? Are you acting in a mature or immature way? Are you being selfish or selfless in your communication? Are you acting like a monkey or like a God-like being?

@integral Yea i am i'll do an update on the thread soon. I can't tell if the gaba is improving my mood or i was already on the upswing and the gaba was just a minor boost.
