Waking up Better

9 posts in this topic

Any tips on how to wake up better, more refreshed, excited and in overall well-being? I seem to have a problem in this regard.

Any input will be highly appreciated. Thank you!

  • Do rigorous exercise sometime during the day for at least 20 minutes
  • Only use your bed/bedroom for sleeping
  • Eliminate screen time just before bed. If you have to use a phone/computer, use a blue light filter like f.lux (for computer), or twilight (for phone).

The above 3 points have worked for me. Never wake up groggy like I used to, and I feel like I have energy to take on the day.

avoid bright light before sleep.

really, not even 1 second.

smartphone, screens, the light bulb in the bathroom...

actually, as soon as the sun come down, bring all the lights down.

make an experiment with candles, and you'll see how you wake-up fresh the next morning.

you'll fall asleep way sooner, and deep sleep (first chunk of the night) will be higher quality.

@loub

  • Go to bed before midnight
  • Sleep enough (usually 8h, maybe you need more or less though)
  • Don’t eat too late
  • Eat easy to digest meals in the evening
  • Eating more fruits and vegetables and cutting back on processed food will increase your energy in general
  • Move enough during the day
  • Avoid screens 1h before bed and also 30min after waking up
  • Drink camomile tea before going to sleep
  • Use your bed(room) only to sleep in it, not for other activities (watching movies, eating,…)
  • Put your alarm far away from your bed so you have to get up to put it off
  • Splash your face with cold water right after you wake up or take a shower directly
  • Put on motivating music and dance if you’re still tired
  • Do something you love in the morning:-)
  • Consider a set morning routine to get you through the first hour or so

Ordered some. Don't know how I could have missed this one for so long judging by the reviews I read. Thank you!

Did that. Felt great. Was awkward at first. Never danced sober which means I haven't danced for some time. Seems like I have really missed out on something. Thank you for bringing it into my awareness. I feel like there's more potential to dancing than I am currently aware of. How's your experience been with it, any additional tips?  Thanks for the detailed reply!

@Knock  Thanks dude, always a pleasure to hear from you ;)

I would also like to add on the other members' advice that an important factor to waking up feeling good is mental health and overall psychic and emotional well being. So for example, if you experience a depression I suggest it will be more difficult emotionally to wake up feeling delighted. Oftentimes depressed people find inter alia an escape in sleep.

I'd add this to the good advice already given above:

  • Go to sleep and wake up around the same time everyday.
  • Drink a glass of water as soon as you're on your feet.
  • If you want to get all analytical, you can start paying attention to sleep cycles, which last for about 90 min but vary among people. To wake up refreshed, you want to set your alarm for the time at which your last sleep cycle ends. Try to sleep for 7h30 (5 cycles) and see how you feel, then play around with it, and keep in mind that in average we need 15 min to fall asleep.
