  • 50   The Ting.  Line 4
  • 18.  Recognizing and Correcting the Causes of Decay

The council given in the changing line 4 of hexagram 50 paraphrased in part is about betraying my inner truth. When I do not say the 'inner no' to  the transgression by another or to the servility of my own ego, in wanting to be liked, which soils my own integrity. Indulgence in self blame only leads me further astray. Fouling my inner integrity is not an irreparable mistake if I'm fully willing to see the mistake and its consequences. Self blame only cripples one more in the same way a grandiose refusal to admit ones own mistakes.

This seems to close to the idea of awareness itself being curative.

  • 13.  Associating  with People

A small piece of the council from Line 1-- "before acting, a person needs to empty his mind of all petty likes and dislikes that make him look down on Nature and on his body. The correct influence comes from inner stillness, which both attracts the Cosmic Helpers, and enables the correct spontaneous response to arise from one's inner truth."

from line 6 -- "A person may believe that what he says lightly in idle conversation, or what others say about him in this manner, produces no harm. Nevertheless it is mostly through idle talk that projections, spells, and poison arrows are created. It is a person's Cosmic duty to take responsibility for everything he says and thinks, and to realize idle talk and thoughts often create great harm."

Zigzag Idiot opinion/insight -- Many thoughts are not self produced, they just appear seemingly out of nowhere or out of the stimulus response mechanism of the body which is just a meat computer. Being responsible for such thoughts means just letting them go.

  • 37.  Meeting Obstructions

The idea that sexuality is a part of one's lower instinct and that it must be sublimated in favor of one's higher nature actually creates a shadow with our sexuality. Or as the text says - it puts spells and poison arrows on the body. This idea is repeated in several interconnecting ways through this text.

It aligns with esoteric Christianity in a way here but especially more with the idea of guilt being an absolutely malignant notion. The idea that we were born into original sin and that we are stained with guilt as many fundamentalists insist on is seen as an immediate stumbling block which creates a perpetual feedback loop. It makes sense to me more as I have sat with this over time.

This suggests that repression/sublimation of sexual energy helps to make compulsive behaviors perpetual. Mostly because of the ideas of guilt and shame put around sexuality by the Churches.

Or as Robert de Ropp described them -- the Judeo Christian guilt cults. In our culture today people who have never even been to Church are infected with this idea because of the predominate influence of fundamentalist or evangelical Christianity influence throughout the previous generations.

This is in line with the idea that whatever we fight or resist only makes it stronger.

There are no evil people. Just ignorant people who perpetuate ignorance and suffering.

Ignorance spawns negativity.

Spiritual sleep is the result of unrealized (mechanical) negative behavior and identifications opposed to Conscious behavior which is free from identifications.

@Zigzag Idiot I appreciate your commentary on the I-ching. Didn't have a reading in a while.
I never studied the Bible in any serious way, but the original sin in relation to nakedness always struck me as a metaphor for awakening from spiritual sleep.

  • 2   Nature

From the text -

Recieving this Hexagram is meant, first of all, to teach a person what Nature is, and that he can relate to it correctly only when he recognizes that he is equal part in it.

Second, it is meant to make him aware that all his mistaken ideas about Nature affect it adversely, causing it to operate in distorted ways. Receiving this Hexagram is also meant to make him aware that he has a responsibility to relate to Nature with sensitivity and feeling.

Third, it informs him that he, like all other expressions of Nature, is dependent on his connection with the Cosmos for guidance.

Spells connected with this Hexagram are created by seed phrases and images having to do with seeing the human role as the creator of order in Nature. Offshoots of this view see human nature as divided into a lower and higher nature, with human animal nature being demonized. The demonizing of humans' animal nature, and the guilt associated with it, create the perversions that lead to many human criminal acts. Also, describing Nature as wild and threatening creates a perverted relationship between humans and other animals. Other spells are created by viewing Naure as a system of mechanics, devoid of consciousness and feeling.

Note- This makes sense to me in regard to not expressing negative emotions, which distorts ones' experience of Nature and perpetuates fear of some kind. Psychological projection would seem to apply here as well. Seeing things through a distorted filter based on childhood conditioning distorts Unity.

About childhood conditioning, I've noticed an initial impulse of blaming the parents. This turns upside down when realized that the parents are even in a more unfortunate position. They too were conditioned and have a greater vested interest in time spent/wasted appeasing the collective ego's requirements.

  • 39.  Meeting Obstructions

A bit of council from the changing lines, paraphrased --

We go astray in trying to fit ourselves to a role or self image. They become a prison cell. Especially roles approved of by Culture whereby in gaining approval we have to deny the inner truth of our feelings which amounts to abandoning the strength of our true nature. Through our heart and feelings we can hear the voice of Conscience.

  • 11.  Harmony/Peace/Prosperity

From changing line 2 -

,,,,,Guilt is an invention of the  collective ego, designed to keep people under its control. The person needs to get rid of all ideas of guilt and of the idea that repentance would free him of it. Repentance slanders the loving nature of the Cosmos, which holds nothing as guilty. The Cosmos gives the person all the help he needs to return to sincerity.,,,,,

  • 24.  Returning.  Line 6
  • 27.  Nourishing

Council from the 6th line of hexagram 24 --

,,,,,,,,This line can refer to the fate created when a person adopts the self image of being noblehearted. Such a person is trying to "be like God",  whom he believes to possess unconditional Love, which he interprets as overlooking and tolerating ego-behavior. He does not see that this self image has put a spell and lock on all his senses of discernment. The Sage makes us aware of the Cosmic Consciousness, the source of all love, retreats in the presence of the ego, and withholds love so long as the ego is present, and in this way draws the person back to his true self. Practicing unconditional love creates one fate after another --- the disaster mentioned.,,,,,,,

From hexagram 27  that I got this morning. Actually yesterday morning. --

The Sage uses this theme of nourishment to refer to what is taken in as food, and metaphorically, to what is taken into the psyche as thoughts, ideas, and beliefs. The Sage distinguishes between what nourishes the True Self and what feeds the ego. What nourishes the True Self adds to the person's existing supply of chi energy.( lifeforce and will to live), whereas what feeds the ego robs him of chi.

All thoughts, ideas, and beliefs, affect our whole being. Thoughts that are not in harmony with Cosmic Truth do so in two ways: first, they negatively affect our ability to receive the chi we need from the Cosmos, and second, they affect how we utilize food and drink.

  • 21.  Biting Through

From the text-

"It is favorable to exercise judgement" councils a person to consciously affirm his inner feeling of disharmony by saying the inner No to that which is causing it, or to add his assent as a conscious inner Yes to that which is harmonious. By exercising judgement in this way he aligns himself with the Cosmic Way.
