Meditation Plateau

39 posts in this topic

Think Ive been there for about 2 months... It just hit me now... Thoughts have been coming up like

•It used to be so much fun to meditate,

•I feel frightened, Im losing my marbles

•my mind is not calm at all anymore,

•my technique is/has become real shitty should i change it?

•whats even the point of meditation, maybe i should just quit for good

BUT!

Power through it and youll find power through it

Stopping throughout the day to meditate on the breath for 5 minutes a couple of times works wonders when i meditate for 30 minutes twice a day. Kriya yoga has also helped me out. Also, when i do long sessions a couple times a week, that silencing benefit stays with me pretty much all the time (90/120min sessions). The nootropic L-theanine also works calming on my mind. Research shows it induces alpha brainwaves which are associated with meditative states. And, ofcourse, keep pushing it.

@Rilles Schedule a few sessions man. Energy work can revitalize meditation in an astounding way. Especially given you’ve never tried it. I’m jelly.

Healthy living. That’s a great reason. How does meditation habit fit into that? Perhaps habit (monkey business-compulsive thought chatter) is causing the conflict. We depend on habits to end what habits have reinforced.

perhaps we have no foundation(freedom) to meditate in the first place.

Constant contrast to the past:

I used

my mind is not calm anymore

technique has become shitty.

Comparing the now (which is perfect by the way) to the past (concept) which will make you feel shitty (hence your last comment...

Realise Rilles all you saying is merely JUST ANOTHER THOUGHT.

We tend to skip out on self knowledge. Which is the foundation. Can we take a break from habit (put it aside for now) and explore how self works within the field of habit?

With self knowledge we may not any longer try and use the monkey to expand for ourselves an extended sense of space. We may see that whatever the monkey does to create space inherently limits itself to a confirmed/limited space.

Hm... interesting... What Ive noticed in myself is that the thoughts always start with a “negative” emotional energy in my stomach... Perhaps Im just reacting to that energy. When my mind wanders off to think about something else the enegy dissipates... it goes up and down... just thoughts and emotions... what else is there... Thank you??

Maybe by employing the monkey(habit-reaction) the monkey is destined to remain.

Will monkey business put a stop to monkey business? ?

Meditation is self-knowledge for me, thats the time when I can sit back and watch how the mechanisms work.

How to not “use” the monkey mind? Its always there even if I focus on my breath, it always returns eventually.

I see. So what is the problem then?

Are you aware of all the ways the monkey operates?

Yes and no. I know alot but obviously its very tricky so theres always more to learn. One year of daily meditation is a good start though. Like I said before Ive noticed recently how it wanders from fears to regular everyday thoughts so in a sense thats a comfort. Fear comes and goes and I remain.

Do you think fear(reaction) and thought are really one unit in movement? Like they are not different at all?

And do you designate a routine to do this, or are you always meditating in your daily life? As in do you observe yourself in relationship. Relationship to your pleasure/desires and relationship with others?
