Indeed.

@enchanted I think you know what you are doing here. And why it could easily be perceived as subtly dismissive.

Just because you wouldn't lie, doesn't mean another woman wouldn't. By that logic, I could argue that because I wouldn't rape someone, Russell Brand probably wouldn't either. Obviously, that tells us nothing about what he actually did.

But yes, of course, it's hard to report rape for trauma and shame reasons and the victims have an especially difficult predicament to navigate.

The most interesting thing about rape as a crime is that it's unjustifiable even to the people committing it so the vast majority of rapists refuse to believe they're rapists.

Criminological and psychological studies estimate that approximately 50% to 60% of convicted sex offenders (including rapists) minimize, justify, or deny core elements of their offense, with 15% to 25% remaining in full categorical denial (claiming they did not commit the act or that it never occurred).

Research indicates that only 5% to 15% of convicted rapists fully acknowledge both their actions and explicit intent without using cognitive rationalizations or self-justifications.

Brings me back to Leo's point that if most people that commit evil acts really had the full consciousness of what they're doing a lot of them would commit suicide in shame and guilt.

It brings a lot of of credibility to the point of feminists saying to teach men not to rape. Enthusiastic consent is an important concept to understand if you're gonna have casual sex with strangers. Some of the advice that I see from men online and even on this forum seems to land them in a murky grey area and you should definitely air on the side of caution when it comes to these things.

It is far easier to fool someone, than to convince them they have been fooled.
