Am I missing out by not using psychedelics?

10 posts in this topic

Guys, I talked to someone yesterday who told me that, years ago, he used some drugs that helped him overcome his social inhibitions and fears, like being afraid to dance in front of other people and other social stuff.

As far as I know, psychedelic experiences can sometimes have similar effects. After that conversation, I started thinking that maybe I’m missing out by not trying psychedelics. Because of my country’s drug policies, I don’t consider them an option, so I’m working on overcoming my fears while sober.

But then I started wondering: if certain substances can help people overcome these fears in just a few hours, while I’m spending months or even years confronting them sober, am I wasting a lot of time by taking the harder route?

Maybe I’m looking at this the wrong way. I’d genuinely be happy to hear different perspectives, especially from people who have experience with psychedelics or have overcome social anxiety and inhibitions without using substances.

You sure are. But I am not telling you to take them.

Test them first. They are no joke.

It might be possible for you to obtain psychedelics through the cultivation of Psilocybe mushrooms or the extraction of N,N-DMT, but you must hold yourself responsible for doing that, as possessing psychedelics would still be illegal.

Yes, you are. Living an entire human life without once taken psychedelics is a waste, imo.

The first time i took them, i was like that GOT meme: "you know NOTHING, bro".

I've realized how much i didn't know about Reality and how wrong I was about my assumptions of it. At 22 years old, I thought I had a grasp of the basics of Reality, i was an atheist and, BOY, I WAS WRONG.

Now, every day I have to fight the urge to feel like that judgmental 80-year-old man looking at young people and thinking, "you don't know how much you don't know".

It just feels so unfair that someone who works really hard and stays disciplined can still end up behind someone who procrastinates all the time, just because that person had a psychedelic experience.

  For example …

@jacknine119, why do you expect psychedelics to solve your social anxiety?

Since there is nothing I can do to change the unfairness of the laws, I will consider how to work around them.

I assure you that a psychedelic experience is neither an easy nor a trivial matter.

Yup. Life is unfair.

You aren't missing out.  Continue your efforts.  There is no magic pill that will change everything in an hour.  That is fantasy.

I've done both and got great synergy between the two.

Psychedelics make your old patterns more loose so you can wire new ones BUT only if you go out and take action.

If I had to choose only one, I would always choose taking action. No amount of psychedelics alone will fix your life if you don't get out of your comfort zone.

But psychedelics are a nice booster when you reach a ceiling.
