How to understand the brain without using the brain

First draw a map of the brain and then study it. Then if you want you can ask the map some questions.

Start here ⬇️ to look for some answers to any question.

this map will not really help you that much if no one tells you that most brain functions consist in the collaboration between different areas.

for example, the primary visual cortex can't do much unless information is first sent to it from the optic nerve, and V1 can only process edges of objects, so other areas are necessary to create a comprehensive image.

just one "map" of the brain will not be sufficient to answer all your questions. the above shows just one way of "dissecting" the brain...you could "cut" into it in a few different places to see other meaningful areas....and you would have to learn how these areas are interconnected, too.

the brain doesn't need to be understood...but if you do want to understand it, it's not wrong to get there by using the brain.

That's only half a brain.

It’s not even a brain, it’s an image of a brain.

No. Much confusion. This is an image of a brain:

Neither are correct. It's pixels on a screen that the brain perceives as an image of a brain.

Darn it, I so like to be right. I'm suspecting it's brains all the way down.

This is correct, the brain took a selfie so that it could see and know itself.

@Mellowmarsh I once asked my niece, "what would you like to study when you get to collage?". She said, "I'm interested in the study of the brain". I said, "oh, the brain studying the brain". The look on her face was like she was having an ah- ha moment.

I once asked my brain.. brain, how do you work?

As I waited impatiently for an answer that wasn’t very forthcoming , I said to my brain, come on brain ..work, work for me now.

@Judy2 I get MRI's of the brain every 6 months at the request of my oncologist for surveillance of tumors and every 3 years at the request of my neurologist for surveillance of lesions. This type of image is what we discuss in the office.

No. My niece never did.

@cetus have you had a tumor in the past? :o

Luckily not in the brain. Lung only.

But lesions on the brain yes from MS. The spinal cord also.
