Solipsism is actually not totally true

Because if I write in an inchoherent way, people don't understand and if people don't understand me then they won't benefit my wellbeing. The only reason I'm interested in practicing writing and speaking coherently is so that I'll be able to use this skill in a way that directly benefits my well being: physical, mental, emotional and social. That is the one and only reason everyone ever writes, thinks or does anything.

So you agree that philosophizing is consistent with ensuring your well-being, and you're doing it yourself, so why do you say you shouldn't do it? Are you talking about a specific form of philosophizing?

I have lost my job once and felt extremely anxious. Physically anxious because I was uncertain about how I'd meet my physical and social needs. Only one thing mattered at that point: how will I make new friends, how will I meet new people for a new job? And my life is a little bit more stable now but STILL that is the only thing in my mind for as long as I'm awake: how to keep these things running smoothly so I'm never again in that painful situation.

Sounds like you're getting fixated on something very specific (basic needs) because you were without them for a while. But you'll see that if you have these very things, you can still have issues. Take the recent case of RJ Mitte as an example, or other similar cases of successful people who seemed to get their basic needs met but still felt like ending themselves. I would say in the majority of these cases, the issues had to do with meaning (and if you want to be more or less general, it always has to do with that). Basic needs are basic. When they're covered, your focus moves over to something else.

@Carl-Richard
Every single person who wants to end themselves don't have their basic needs met. Social connection and social safety is EXTREMELY important. More so than food and water. People who end themselves don't have their basic emotional needs met. Again only one thing matters: meeting needs. Physical, social, emotional, mental. All of them. Consistently and predictably met. Every single day from the moment you are born to the last second prior to your death. This is your only life agenda. If one single need is unmet, then the individual is unhappy and cannot function and thinks of killing themselves. I can guarantee people kill themselves over not seeing a way to meet a specific need.

I'll answer the part on philosophyzing later. I'm busy hanging out with my coworker and eating a sandwich, 2 things for my survival and well being, catchya later

How do you meet those needs?

@Carl-Richard

A bunch of my wellbeing needs are unmet which is why I'll think of suicide at least 5 days a week multiple times a day.

I barely have my need for OXYGEN properly met since I got a perforated septum issue. Which results in my need for a restful night sleep going unmet as well

I barely have my emotional needs met like the vast majority of people today. I barely have my need for certainty and preditability met.

Even spiritual needs like a connection to God (or God-realization as myself) are unmet for me

And I will remain an unhappy person until every single one of them are secured. There is nothing else for me to do but strive for the acquiring of those things.

And everyone is after meeting their personal survival needs. Philosophysing can become an addiction, which prevents people from working towards the securing of their needs. Every addiction is a distraction from an unmet need. I think Leo would call this type of philosophyzing mental-masturbation.

I actually can't see the benefit in thinking about solipicism... other than it being a distraction for meeting real spiritual needs. It can also be used as a roundabout way to meet social needs as well by socially presenting oneself as an esteemed philsopher. But anyways, that's another topic. I'm writing quickly cuz I have to go back to work right now.

You are infinite consciousness.

The mind is the experiencer that confuses itself with the bodily reactions.

The mind is there to manage your consciousness exploration, transmutation and transformation.

This includes shifting bodily reactions to aligned states.

When the mind and body are aligned a healthy identity emerges, and when they are not, a less healthy one forms.

Everything else within is just the realisations in between, the training to bridge the gaps and the modest growth that results.

That takes the longest, but it prevents the destination being taken for granted.

@blankisomeone

What evidence would you need to establish that every single person who dies by suicide has unmet basic needs?

What would count as evidence against your theory?

@Natasha Tori Maru

The truth is people decide to kill themselves because certain human needs of theirs have gone unmet and they feel hopeless that there's any way to get it met. There is no evidence against this truth.

what, do you think there's other reasons? I'd be happy to listen and consider.

A human addiction.

I'm as deliciously impoverished like all the rest of you.

Call me a drunk, call me a whore, call me Ghandi; its all in my bacon and egg roll, and I'll eat it, coz I'm whicked and nasty, but I make it all looks good in the crunch.

Ha.

So no evidence counters your theory?

So it is impossible to falsify? You don't see a problem with this line of reasoning?

It seems to me like you have another theory which I would love to adopt as a counter theory. Is there another reason people commit suicide other than the one I have mentioned?

That's not what I want to do here. You need to have insight into this. Just reading the conversation that proceeded above I can see reason isn't enough to convince you.

You need to investigate your beliefs and reasoning. How you came to this conclusion.

@Natasha Tori Maru
Eye roll.
There's only one way to develop critical thinking: having eaten and gotten enough sleep FIRST. Basic human needs are still the most fundamental thing ever. There is NO arguing against this. I have had anxiety attack strong enough to KNOW that life is IMPOSSIBLE without having security and without having peace through having fundamental human needs properly met. There is NO WAY to do anything else here in physical life without having this secured.

I am TIRED of trying to just live my life and then have people annoy my mind with "oh but why is there something rather than nothing? What is solipiscism? What is the nature of this pen?" Bro for real, does this add to your happiness or is this just a coping mechanism to cope with unmet needs? This isn't even true spiritual progression!

People just have to admit they are monkeys with needs. Just admit it. You're unhappy to the degree that your needs are unmet.🥰

If you're unhappy just look at what is the developmental need you have been deprived of in this society that fundamentally doesn't care about your growth, go after it, meet it. Be satisfied. Be happy.

The subject of solipsism isnt you, its God.

God = Infinity.

Your solipsism is Gods nature. Just like your intelligence is.

Disappointing, but not unexpected.

Have a look into:

- Causal claims

- Universal generalisations

- Testing beliefs against counterexamples

For the vast majority, it's coping, fa sho.

How happy, easy-going, light-hearted, worry-free, and secure in one's survival is the average AO member? It's probably lower than average. I agree that this flavor of spirituality doesn't really do much to increase those things. Happiness is not to be found here. It's more about addiction to insight, and the effect or the utility of the insight is rarely even considered because the striving for and deriving the insight is the point.

What if this is just fascination + identity + seriousness being inflated into universal importance?

This is interesting.

Then what is your theory on:

  1. Why transcendence is a human need
  2. Why its not distributed equally

I'd argue that most people mess up both questions, including people that think they're good at answering them, so don't be too hard on yourself, its just an exercise for yourself to learn from if you want.

The vast majority of people who want "transcendence" are people in pain who have decided they can't do anything about it. They're hopeless about their pain. And so they're like yeah lemme transcend this crap. It's quite sad. It's like passive suicide. I know cuz I've been there/am there.

Trasncendence in its purest form would be something like being more spiritual, I guess? But being more spiritual is different from being an armchair philosopher creating distractions with topics like solipicism and some other metaphysical topics.

It's ok to want to transcend the physical world I guess. My only claim here is: as long as you have a physical body, SURVIVAL and WELL BEING are your ONLY concerns. It's 100% your motivation. If any need of yours is messed with/taken away, you'll feel the burn.

The distinction between being thirsty and actually enjoying water.

There's other demographics as well just remember that.

But is this not a demographic too?

Every demographic is learning.

That process though is a different subject to being annoyed with a particular way someone tries for transcendence, or seeks to teach others a similar path.

The same person can have many different styles, influences and actions too.

It's wise to identify when one is getting taken away by one perspective over another outside of just merely chatting and debating about it however.
