Second factor would be Musk's fears of a nuclear war and holocaust that can wipe out the nation states of the US, Europe and Russia permanently and derail his dream of going to Mars.

Musk might be okay with the conflict if he can get to Mars first and end up as a survivor and winner, but not before that.
