There is no way anybody is not calcium deficient if they don't chug milk w every meal

Who cares about these recommendations; nobody has ever died or had problems because they didn't eat a lot of calcium all the time.

I only hit about 40% with a standard day's worth of food. How do you do it? Do you snort calcium-fortified soy?

Other than supplements, here are some top contenders (though it might not be to your taste). Small fish with the bone in, like sardines (shown below) or even canned salmon (with the bone):

Black sesame seeds. Grind or crush it or else you're wasting your time. You can blend it into a milk (or milk alternative) and it's pretty good! Or alternatively, you can make a spread from grinding it in a coffee grinder and adding a bit of sweetener of whatever kind, a splash of vanilla extract (optional), and a bit of oil or water to get the paste to the right consistency. IMO these are the easiest and tastiest ways to eat it.

In East Asian culture we use this in our regular food, especially sweets and sweet drinks. To me it just tastes good, healthy or not, but I'm not sure if non-Asian people like it. Black sesame is also an important food in TCM and Ayurvedic medicine, for whatever it's worth.

Another possible option: blackstrap molasses -- it might taste a bit strong if you're not used to it, and also I haven't personally figured out a way to use it consistently in actual food and not something you down by itself.

Still it's always a combination of foods and even then it can be hard to meet the DRV without supplementation. If you have specific calorie and macro requirements to meet though (e.g. high protein with a limited number of calories), this is where I think it actually starts to get impossible.

Keep in mind RDV is just a guideline anyway, it never accounts for the absorbability of specific foods and food groups.

🤢🤖 Even though I haven't tasted any of them, both of them has existed as "fake food" in my head since I learned about them (not necessarily based on anything factual).

I think it's considered "minimally processed", no more processed than cheese or bread, really. It and soy milk are traditional East Asian foods.

Personally I find it a lot easier to digest than just simple cooked beans, lentils, and a lot of cooked foods (including the ones that are considered super healthy because they're high in many micronutrients, but also are high in oxalates)

I remember trace minerals like zinc were pretty annoying too. Anyways that's back when I was trying to go through those hoops. At least it made me pretty aware of what was in each food group.

I relied a lot on hemp hearts when I was doing micronutrient min-maxing, particularly for the mag, zinc, and even iron.

pros: also easy to digest.   cons: a bit too easy to digest, at times. (In one end and out the other.)   solution: pair it with something harder and slower to digest.

You sound like my stepdad.

We don't care about "not dying". We care about what is optimal. You can be starving and not dying.

I have been taking a calcium supplement (500mg, with 20ug vitamin D; I also take more vitamin D than that, but just for proper accounting) for over a year because I was trying to cover that hole in the RDA numbers, and now when I tried reducing it by half, my brain took a dive. I think calcium is a nootropic. I might also just have to get through the "withdrawals" so to speak before I can give a real judgement.

Indeed my new favorite drink is Scotch and I want to try rugby even american football soon, so I’m hardly the mirror that is going to promote calcium 😸

Smoking a pack of cigarettes certainly isn't good for your well-being and health, but your body can easily handle varying levels of calcium if your diet is even slightly varied

It seems like a waste of energy compared to other sources of vital energy recovery such as quality sleep, massages by a Chinese woman, semen retention, or even "esoteric" practices I’ll be discussing on the forum soon.

Egg shell powder, you can buy it or make it at home DIY. 0,5-1 tablespoon of it supposedly contains RDA calcium or even more.

I'll be trying it soon.

Maybe you need some calcium if those are the sports you want to invest your "bones" in.

How is taking a calcium supplement a waste of time, it "literally" takes zero time out of your day 💀 Your neurodivergence is once again giving me calcium drop-offs into my post-synaptic wtf-brain-area terminals.

What about just chomping an egg with the shell?

It costs money, and it takes mental effort to worry about getting your calcium.
