You are seeing the twisted force of survival play out in Israel as a whole in real time.

Israel is drowning in unconscious survival. Notice how that ends in evil.

The guy is not even Jewish yet he defends Israel with more passion than most Jewish people

He is either paid or has some messed up backstory that makes him like this

@Karmadhi I think this is an election-driven move by Netanyahu. Anyway I also didn't like the way they chose to show their criticism.

A campaign of public shaming and calling them traitors or self hating Israelis etc would be closer to what I would expect from a democracy

Using state institutions like arresting or taking away citizenship seems more of something you would expect in an autocracy

@Karmadhi There is a fair and respectful way to criticize. You can fully expose a problem without having to paint an entire people in a negative light. Israelis are rightfully angry with them. Arresting them is wrong though.

I have not seen the documentary to comment but anyone willing to expose its own national devilry despite knowing they will be hated to me are absolute heros worthy of respect

Similar to Edward Snowden

If Don Beck was still alive and speaking, Israel would kill him.

Opposition leader Lapid

" Remember When We Were Cool?

Yeah, I know. Anyone who still writes “cool” is probably not cool anymore.

But we really were cool. Incredibly cool. And it wasn't even that long ago.

Madonna was walking around wearing a red Kabbalah bracelet, and she kicked off a world tour right here in Israel.

Every summer, Yarkon Park was a stop on somebody's world tour: Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Radiohead, Justin Bieber — twice.

Investors came here from all over the world because Israeli startups were insanely cool. Warren Buffett's first acquisition outside the United States was a factory in Tefen.

Intel paid $15 billion for Mobileye, Pepsi paid $3.2 billion for SodaStream, and Google bought Waze. In 2021 alone, Israeli companies raised $25 billion.

Lonely Planet ranked Tel Aviv the third-best city in the world.

In 2019, four and a half million tourists visited Israel — an all-time record.

Remember that? Just four years ago, we had this thing called tourists.

Wonder Woman was from Rosh HaAyin. Shtisel became a massive hit on Netflix. Homeland and In Treatment originated here.

A book by a really skinny professor from the Hebrew University sold more than 20 million copies.

Ottolenghi turned hummus and tahini into global trends. Eyal Shani opened pita restaurants in Paris and New York. The best restaurant in America in 2019 was Zahav, an Israeli restaurant in Philadelphia.

Netta won Eurovision. A year later, all of Europe came to Tel Aviv, with Madonna on stage once again. She sang wildly off-key.

The Giro d'Italia kicked off in Jerusalem. Maccabi Tel Aviv were European champions. Linoy Ashram and Artem Dolgopyat came home from Tokyo with gold medals.

Four Nobel Prizes in science in nine years. We sent a spacecraft to the moon. It crashed during landing, but it made it there. We also sent an astronaut to the International Space Station.

Governments came to learn from us how to turn seawater into drinking water. The whole world wanted Iron Dome.

In January 2021, the entire world was watching us: we vaccinated our population faster than anyone else, and Pfizer chose us to be the world's laboratory.

Israelis were taking selfies in Dubai. Emiratis were eating hummus in Jaffa.

Three American presidents and a pope came to visit. Conan O'Brien came to film an episode, and he laughed with us, not at us.

And then there was Bruno Mars's concert in Yarkon Park, in front of 63,000 people.

It was a Wednesday. His second concert was supposed to take place on Saturday night.

October 7, 2023.

Since then, foreign airlines have stopped flying here.

Artists have been canceling their performances.

Credit rating agencies have downgraded us again and again.

More than 200,000 Israelis have left the country, including nearly 1,400 doctors.

Last February, for the first time since the establishment of the State of Israel, more Americans identified with the Palestinians than with us.

Part of it is the war, but this isn't our first war.

Part of it is antisemitism and Qatari money, but antisemites and Qataris were around four years ago too, and back then, it didn't do them much good.

Yes, the people marching around shouting “Free Palestine” are toxic, useful idiots. Yes, the global campaign against us is an insult to intelligence, fueled by horrific lies. But the problem is that on our side, we have a government that, instead of fighting back against all this, has done everything it can to prove to the world that we're no longer cool.

No country becomes cool because of its government. But a country can absolutely stop being cool because of its government.

That's what happened to us.

Netanyahu used to be kind of cool. Those days are long gone.

Young people around the world look at him and see someone arrogant and out of touch.

Ministers who call for starving children and dropping atomic bombs on civilians are decidedly not cool. Jewish terrorism isn't cool. Racism isn't cool.

The things Deri and Pindrus say about LGBTQ people are seriously uncool.

Ben Gvir's TikTok followers might be surprised to hear this, but the world doesn't think he's cool at all. They see him for what he is: violent, loud, sweaty, and desperate for likes.

I know we're different. But the world doesn't know that.

People look at us and think, “Well, that's their government, so they must be like that too.”

We can explain until we're blue in the face that Tally Gotliv and Amsalem do not represent the State of Israel, but they're the ones people see on their screens.

Every single day. All day long.

Now for the good news:

Everything that made us cool until recently is still here.

The engineers are here. The scientists are here. The chefs are here. The sea, the sunshine, the chutzpah, and Yohay Sponder.

The young woman starting a company at 24. The grandmother cooking for 40 soldiers she's never met.

The reservists who served 300 days are the coolest people in the world (except maybe the female reservists).

So what will it take to get back there?

Not a miracle. Just a government that knows how to govern. Ministers who don't embarrass us on the world stage. A military in which everyone serves.

Taking responsibility.

This isn't nostalgia. It's a plan of action.

We were there just a moment ago. The road back is shorter than you think.

On October 27, we'll be deciding many things far more important than this.

But we'll also be deciding whether we get to be cool again. "
