how do you feel about season 3?

who is your favourite character? who is the character you can best identify with and/or relate to?

what do you love about season three? what do you hate about it?

The acting is great I feel - really well executed. The writing of Rheanyra could be better. I feel like they wasted some opportunities but I felt they wrote in a bit of the Targ madness pretty well (the end where she had her little delulu "I am the prince that was promised" moment, good entry to writing the initial delusion of the descent into madness). 

I don't relate to any of the characters. Maybe Daemon the most (probably my fav also) - only because I have a few overlaps in traits.

I felt like they should have done something better with Dreamfyre and Haelena. She had such a sad end and the small glimpse we got was not enough!

I felt like the writing wasn't as good as previous seasons. What the hell were Larys and Aegon even doing half the season? Aemond's story sort of meandered. A bit of filler that could have inserted some of the more interesting elements from the books. There just wasn't that same level of spicy political intrigue.

But my god I am spellbound by the dragon scenes! Love them. 

@LordFall I think you were watching it also? Thoughts?

yes, i fully agree. in some scenes, you can really empathise with her. the rest evokes a lot of mixed feelings and frustration.

yesterday, i felt so sad for Helaena all day. but in my opinion, her end is, perhaps, also "good" (speaking in terms of the show) because it is so tragic and it really makes you go back and reflect on her character. 

Helaena was one of my favourite characters. 

the other character i can most relate to is Alicent. in the first two seasons, i believe she is sort of written in such a way that you are supposed to hate her, but over time, i could relate a lot to the internal and external pressures she seemed to experience. 

 

Aemond surprised me a little towards the end and i hadn't expected that turn for him at all.

i mean that scene was disgusting and just wrong but also isn't that why we watch GOT/HOTD?  to be a little grossed out at times.

i definitely wouldn't mind having someone like Daemon in my life to give me a pep talk every morning...the things i could achieve...

I think good but not great. The rating of 8.3 compared to Game of thrones' 9.2 makes sense.

Yeah the writing is much worse and so are the characters. Aegon seems to be the only one with a really cool character arc. I think they got rid of Otto too quickly, the smart mastermind type of characters make shows much more interesting. Game of Thrones also got worse when Tywin died.

The lack of nudity also takes some of the edginess off imo, I think they should've put more in. 

The last battle was gripping but a bit rushed imo. I did love how they showed Ulf being an unreliable drunk and ruining the fight, that seems like a realistic plot that would happen in the chaos of medieval battles.

Rhaenyra is a very bland character. The only thing I like about her is it shows how heavy the crown lies and how hard her life is. Daemon fucking her to get closer to the throne is an interesting plot line, they should've went a bit deeper into the implications that has for his character. It seems like they only focused on the taboo side of it and not too much into how obsessed he is with power. 

I guess they do show him being a liability to Rhaenyra with him wanting to conquer the world while she's concerned about the stability of the kingdom. The last supper murder scene of the gold cloaks was great, super terrifying stuff. I wish they showed more from the perspective of the assassins, I just watched episode 2 of shogun where a female assassin goes on a killing spree and it was pretty badass. 

The dragon fight scene was sweet. I like how Daemon first orders Caraxes to kill Sheepstealer and then has pity on him and leaves him be. Shows insight into Daemon's character and how deeply he values the dragons that give power to house Targaryen.

Nobody ever gives people like Daemon a pep talk; in fact, it's usually the opposite and most of their accomplishments are minimised. ): 

Plus, they are usually too busy to be giving out free one on one pep talks.
