Record El Niño to bake Australia

Well.

I'll update you on the incineration down under.

FUCK.

The sad part is, I did a minor in meteorology at uni (maths was my major). We studied ice core samples from the Arctic in 2005/2006 looking at how the climate changes. Looking at the projected path we were on back then triggered 3/4 months of really bad depression for me.

Watch out for wet bulb temperature, evade places that are too humid. With the increase of temperature, you might reach the upper limit even if the humidity isn't at a 100%, which results in pernament vacation out of life

Goddamnit. I kinda hoped this wouldn’t be the case but here we are. I hope anyone in the southern hemisphere has good access to air conditioning, this summer is gonna be ass :/

Sorry guys. Things are not looking good.

We are in a climate emergency. But, no one will stop burning fossil fuels. The carbon in the atmosphere is ALREADY tramping more heat than it releases. More energy. So. We are in a positive feedback loop for planetary heating currently. There is no way to remove the Carbon. Earth will get hotter and it’s already causing global wild fires, heat waves, etc. These heat domes too are scary.

We need to create systems to support this, and incentivise markets to work with these systems to profit in some way. I can't think of any other way for people to hop onto problem solving faster.

There has been a lot of research and development into ways to extract carbon out and leverage the carbon cycle. Carbon farming. Bioenergy with carbon capture and storage, DAC or direct air capture. Even ocean absorption based strategies.

If only stupid cu*** like Musk weren't insisting on abandoning Earth for Mars. TF even happened to that narrative?

Someone needs to engineer a HUGE plant to move carbon into places we want it to support the existing cycle.

@Natasha Tori Maru Removing all that Carbon takes a lot of energy and cooling. I can’t see us doing it.

There are challenges sure - I just don't want you to fall into black pill thinking (like I myself did, and clawed out).

@Natasha Tori Maru thank you lol. I am here… and I… am easing into it.

I don’t know what will happen. But, imagining my death has helped me relax more in my life.

I suspect what is happening is serious. Big league.

Climate change is really the number one issue.

Good look, Europe has suffered from this now since two months now and we are still going through it.
This summer was not nice for us - at all.

@JJfromSwitzerland Coldest summer you may ever have again..a cool 46 degrees Celsius.

Something big may be coming with this El Niño and now a new anomaly is happening. I suspect it will disrupt the world. It’s also coming in a time a major global heat waves, heat domes and major drought. Also, at a time when crops are already threatened.

Expect major heat waves, storms, failing power grids, water shortages, and food shortages and the conflict which will follow.

I don’t think the first major crisis of climate change are a century away. They are happening now, and are 5 years or less away.

What are you basing this on?

I ask because I like to read up on oceanography and climate science as a hobby (It was part of my bachelor's). I cannot find anything that backs up a 5 year trajectory. Scientists just don't predict a simultaneous global systemic collapse within five years. If you have some rock solid shit you have come across certainly fling it my way - I'd be really keen to dig into it!

I do think this El Nino event will be disruptive.

But I also think you are falling into blackpill / doom & gloom thinking....

I know... and I'm worried about that.

@Natasha Tori Maru Right now this year we are having massive wildfires all over the planet. There are unprecedented heatwaves all over the planet right now. There are global droughts right now. There is a highly stressed food system right now. Etc. this super El Niño is expected to make 2027, a year of great climate risk. It’s adding a lot of heat to an already hot earth. One already seeing major drought, and wild fires and ecosystem loss. Europe, Canada, the US, and many other places are already seeing unprecedented wild fires.

I am saying 5 years to seeing more major drought, heatwaves, power failures, crop failures, etc. I’ve essentially put all the videos I’ve watched together in my head . I’ve seen experts right now warning of coming food shortages, right now warning about drought (the UN has declared a global water emergency). The Colorado river is drying out along with many other lakes and rivers. The US has one if the largest aquifers in the world and it is drying out. Lakes, rivers, all over Europe are drying out, There is water saving measures being implemented in many countries due to this.

Ive seen water experts warn that we could be 5 to 10 years away form major water crisis beyond anything we’ve seen,

Total collapse is not what I’m saying. I’m saying so much disruption due to the coming heat entire cities get shut down. One of the early examples is Hungary having to shut down its nuclear power plant due to drought. Nuclear facilities can’t be run on a hot dry earth.

We have to look at all the parts, water management, forestry, power grid resilience, food resilience, etc. we also have to consider that already forests are dying from the current heat and what 5 more years of this ever increasing heat will do.

I believe we are already facing a crisis, and 5 years from now this will be even worse. I did not say total collapse, but major extreme crisis for billions of humans. Everyone will be touched.

@Thought Art thanks for illustrating what you mean by crisis.

Got any links for what you have watched?

Mass migration is something you haven't raised - this is more likely to fuck shit up in a systemic way.

@Natasha Tori Maru Yes, that’s part of the conflicts I mentioned.
