The discussion in Israel during the war with Iran

@Lila9 Australia 🇭🇲💛 deserves to win this year.

After that Finland and Denmark.

Still of course I want Israel to end as high as possible, just that Noam's song could be better. Anyway, he is a good performer and a very good singer.

We all screamed here when Israel made it to the final. Can't wait to see how it goes on Saturday.

@Nivsch

Oh I forgot Australia! Yes their song is beautiful.

It reminds me of Sweden's song by Lorin which won a few years ago.

Opposition Leader, Yair Lapid

I want to tell everyone who complimented me for putting my ego aside - you're mistaken.

I didn’t put my ego aside; I put my heart in the right place.

Behind our soldiers, behind our children, behind people who work hard and still can’t make ends meet, behind a friend whom I believe can lead change together with me.

In recent years, the government has torn us apart from within and from without, but we can still repair things. The power is in our hands.
My teacher and rabbi, Jonathan Sacks, said: “The Jewish task was, and remains, to be a voice of hope in an age of fear.”

Loving your country does not mean constantly shouting about whom you hate.

It does not mean blaming others for disasters you caused, nor inventing enemies from within. Loving your country means taking the long road — sometimes the unpopular one — seeking partners, and together repairing what has been broken. "

In October 2023, the world was shocked by the horrific crimes committed by Hamas against civilians and stood entirely on the side of Israel. About three years after the massacre, the focus on Hamas' crimes became marginal, if at all, and the global spotlight was directed entirely towards Israel - the world is concerned with Israel's crimes in Gaza and its treatment of Palestinians and prisoners.

A country whose thousands of terrorists occupied its communities and committed monstrous acts that the mind cannot bear, who murdered, raped, and burned civilians from infants to the elderly, whose citizens, including infants, were kidnapped from their beds and held in inhuman conditions, who were tortured and murdered in captivity - not only completely eroded the support it had gained following the massacre, but also led to the fact that the world no longer sees it as the injured party, but sees it as the aggressor - the one from whom the world must be protected.

I don't think anyone imagined that in a short time Israel would transform from a country that was brutally attacked with crimes that could be defined as crimes against humanity, from a country that the entire world stood by and expressed shock and disgust at Hamas's criminal acts, into an almost isolated country, one whose crimes are discussed and its actions condemned throughout the world - and this dubious honor for turning the tables is reserved entirely for Benjamin Netanyahu.

The turning of the tables didn't happen by itself, the world didn't decide one day to switch sides and see Israel as a criminal - it happened because Netanyahu embarked on a protracted war of revenge whose sole purpose was to forget his responsibility for the massacre by "defeating Hamas" - the result is that the massacre was truly forgotten, only that, contrary to the great leader's original plan, its forgetting took place precisely on the global level, where Israel needed it most - for the world to remember that it was the injured party.

And if the prolonged war of revenge, which resulted in neither the elimination of Hamas nor a victory over it, is not enough, then the global propaganda arena has been silenced so that instead of hearing the voices of professionals and balanced and eloquent people who would explain Israel's position in a matter-of-fact manner, the world has received Amichai Eliyahu calling for dropping an atomic bomb on Gaza, Distel screaming that there are no innocents, and Smotrich, Struck and Ben Gvir calling for the obliteration of Gaza - and the world saw and heard the voices of the Netanyahu government and responded accordingly.

Let us recall that throughout its years, Israel has known difficult and bloody wars with thousands of deaths, but never has a war been waged for an entire term with the leader delivering propaganda speeches to the citizens about "total victory."

Never has a war been waged in which Israel has been in enemy territory for such a long time, resulting in both many casualties for the soldiers and military and psychological exhaustion that was also expressed in the actions taken by the army.

Never has the same territory been conquered again and again and each time the leader came out declaring victory.

Never has a war been waged in such a way that it was clear to every sane person, and no one hid it, that it was a political war of the leader and the government.

And this war that Netanyahu waged, ostensibly a legitimate war on Hamas, but in fact a war to cling to power and forget the massacre, is perhaps the greatest crime that Netanyahu committed, because it puts Israel and the IDF on the same page as the Hamas terrorists.

Netanyahu has brought about the fact that the world not only sees IDF soldiers and Hamas terrorists as two sides of the same coin, but judges the IDF even more harshly than the Hamas terrorists due to the fact that the war is so protracted and the actions are spread out over years and are visible to the world - and this is an unforgivable crime, because Netanyahu, as always, preferred his own self-interest over the political, security and strategic interests of Israel.

The damage he caused to Israel on the international level is indescribable damage, one that will take years, if at all, to reverse. To rehabilitate it and return Israel to being a state in which the IDF is the defense army of Israel and not Netanyahu's revenge army, and Israel is a state of law that operates according to the rules of international law.

Netanyahu has committed many crimes, the list of his crimes against the State of Israel and its citizens is as wide as the sea.

This is a prime minister who has brought about destruction, ruin, plundering of systems and turning Israel into a third world country where violence, bullying, evil and ignorance reign, like him, a country where every criminal reigns and every unemployed scoundrel is presented on the government's incitement channel - but his greatest, most serious and unforgivable crime is undoubtedly erasing the massacre from the world agenda through a long and pointless war, abandoning the propaganda arena and turning the sovereign State of Israel into one that stands in line with a monstrous Islamic terrorist organization.

Netanyahu applied the principle that when you enter the arena of the worst among the enemies while losing your temper in general, you adopt their patterns and turn yourself into To be them. Netanyahu has undermined all the principles that Israel had and made it equal to Hamas, if not inferior to it. And that was probably easy for him because the same money financed his office and Hamas.

This is false, Israeli society including the left and center defended and excused the crimes and continue to in most regards. Polls find the overwhelming majority support or do not care about the damage towards civilians resulting from the IDF.

@Raze Emotional numbness towards civilians on the other side of a conflict is very common among Western societies in general.

No. After 9/11 there was still backlash and outrage internally in America when news of war crimes appeared and politicians had to frame their actions as at least in part helping the civilian population.

It is more akin to long term dehumanization of a oppressed population built up over decades due to ideology rooted in victimhood and superiority.

@Raze There is plenty of criticism of the war among Israelis as well and you can read some of it here. Israelis have also gone through decades of terrorism coming from Gaza and the West Bank.

Bibi's biggest mistake was Operation Epic ridicule. It's true that the destruction of Gaza has generated a growing anti-Israeli sentiment, but even so, many people thought that Israel had the right to defend itself, that its position surrounded by mortal enemies required toughness.

Everything's fine until you start the epic ridiculous operation that is going to put all the American public against Israel, because the Americans don't like losers, and they like less being losers. Netanyahu should find a cherry blossom tree, write one last poem, and commit seppuku, with Ben Hvir as his assistant.

Then let's see what happens with Israel. The position of Israel now seems worse than ever
