Salt Addiction, Overeating, take it out and see :)

11 posts in this topic

My friend recently made this post about salt, she's in her mid 50s and looks 35. I was looking for a better explanation about salt as i was discussing with Natasha on another post but felt i did a poorer job, and this popped up in my feed today, just what I needed. Hopefully it clears up some confusion.

Salt is one of the main reasons people become addicted to cooked and processed foods, including desserts, because cooking destroys natural flavor, water, enzymes, and mineral balance. When food is cooked, especially grains, meats, and starches, it becomes bland, bitter, or even foul-tasting in its natural state. Salt is then added to chemically stimulate the tongue and nervous system, not to nourish the body. It overrides natural appetite regulation and makes otherwise unpalatable foods seem desirable. This is why “none of it tastes good without salt.”

Salt works by dehydrating cells and exciting taste receptors, creating an artificial “hit” that keeps people reaching for more. It increases dopamine release, reinforcing cravings, and it dulls sensitivity over time, requiring even more salt to achieve the same flavor response. This mirrors addiction pathways rather than true hunger. Natural foods like fruits and greens already contain sodium in biologically appropriate, water-bound forms along with potassium, which balances nerve signaling and hydration. They do not require added salt because they are designed to taste good as-is.

Desserts rely on the same mechanism. Salt is added to sweets because refined sugar alone is flat and cloying; salt sharpens sweetness and stimulates appetite, making cookies, cakes, and ice cream more addictive than sugar alone. Remove salt, and most cooked desserts lose their appeal quickly. This is why people say, “It needs a pinch of salt,” even in sugar-heavy foods.

In nature, salt is rare. Wild animals do not season their food. They crave sodium only when deficient, not constantly. Chronic salt craving is a sign of a cooked, dehydrating diet that strips potassium and water from cells, creating a false sense of need. Fruits and greens correct this by rehydrating the body and restoring mineral balance, causing salt cravings to fade.

In short, salt is not enhancing food; it is masking damage done by cooking and processing. It trains the palate away from real nourishment and locks people into dependence on cooked foods and desserts that would otherwise be rejected by the body.

I am def addicted to salt. Love it.

I have yet to see any serious evidence that salt is harmful. The body knows how to regulate salt.

Andrew Norton Webber had some good talks on the science of salt, distilled water and how inorganic minerals effect the body and build-up calcification and lead to severe dehydration over-time, but I am finding it challenging to find them, may need to search with " " specific quotations.

We are not really meant to turn into old shriveled up prunes. Plenty of yogi centenarians who don't look much older than 50 - 60 can be found all over india, often only consuming wild fruits, berries, herbs, raw honey and raw milk occasionally.

Almost never salt, sugar, flour or processed (modern foods) which prematurely age us.

Sri Tat Wale Baba at 75 - 80 years old for example...

I haven't ever seen a study displaying the age defying effects of low salt. There could be so many variables contributing to this sort of persons apparent aging, as you seem to also highlight that low salt is usually hand in hand with some form of raw veganism / vegan etc diets. There are way too many other lifestyle factors that could be present that could account for the effects. Not to mention genetic variability.

Why do you think there are not more widespread general studies aligning with your premise?

I haven't come across many controlled studies showing evidence salt is harmful.

How do we know the human body has not evolved genetically to tolerate higher salt? After all, it was used as a preservative to maintain foods to avoid famine. It was essential for survival prior to refrigeration. It was a traded commodity in ancient Rome, Africa, China, Medieval Europe & India. Humans evolve to their conditions. Salt is the easiest way to get enough sodium for me. Nerves, muscles, blood pressure all rely on it. The volume of vegetables and fruits I eat, mean I need to intake additional salt as I am getting huge amounts of potassium and magnesium in my diet. As well as high intensity exercise most days. I deplete sodium very quickly. I add salt to my water on occasion if I feel my focus slipping and I am not experiencing low blood sugar. It enhances focus. Scientific consensus backs this.

In addition, I still do not understand why making foods more palatable with sodium/salt is bad for health, provided it is done in a balanced way... the term 'addiction' is being thrown around and used WAY too liberally. People who do not have issues/disorders surrounding food do not usually use this term applied in this way.

I am convinced when I see backed up, cohesive arguments for these sorts of topics. Widespread data. And I usually self experiment. Removing all salt from my diet lowered my blood pressure in a very detrimental way to my functioning.

Unfortunately you make a lot of statements without any sort of widespread backing. I do see you mention some niche cherry picked sources but nothing with any sort of consensus.

I drink miso soup as part of breakfast every day.

I just do not overeat with additional salt in my diet.

And to be clear, I am talking about a normal, balanced amount of added salt.

Not excessive.

SALT... SALT... Where's the SALT? That's what my dad says at every meal. lol.

I don't get what all the hype is about, myself.

You never know - *I* could be the freaky one.

My blood pressure is so low, usually if I am admitted to hospital, or see a GP who is not my regular, they attempt to sit me down and not let me walk around/get up for fear of passing out and hitting my head. I am not joking. I have had a few incidents where I have been restrained/labelled 'non-compliant' due to insisting I am okay and walking / standing. So my low blood pressure is anomalous. Way below what is normal. This is a genetic thing that runs in my family. I have been in emergency and pulled out saline bags because the nurses insist on pumping me so full of it to try to raise BP I end up bloated and ill.

So this is the reason I add salt for sodium. I do not know how else to source it in my diet easily through food. I cannot fit much more volume into my diet as it is. And I only weigh 48kg @ 162cm. It is not like I overeat due to my additional salt intake.

How can i say this... Its cause we live in a sick and twisted, corrupt system, who control almost all the vital information we receive, and only the information they allow to the public be public and mainstream. They deliberately hide this stuff cause they don't want people to get healthy and free themselves from the enslavement of the modern system and foods. The whole world was fooled by the man-made virus few years ago... and millions died from the side-effects of the jab but no news/media outlet is allowed to share it or AI instantly shadow banns it. You cannot even comment on any social media or utube about any-health related thing anymore or your comments get deleted. Hence why they removed the dislike button from youtube and comment option on news channels because most people were rebelling and against this corruption yet they didn't want the rest of humanity to see this, they wanted to keep the story that most of the world are in agreement, which is utterly nonsense. Most people i met in person were against this mandatory bs that occurred a few years back.

Health is the biggest threat to the corrupt corporations that run the world, and they invest billions of dollars a year to keep mouths shut and scientists and their findings controlled and limited to what they allow to be shared. You can find stuff, but takes effort to know how to navigate, especially the dark/deep web and find it, otherwise google, fb, most search engines, are funded, controlled by AI, by the same corrupt system that put fluoride in your water and systematically and incrementally poison our food, water, and air supply that we actually end up blind and oblivious and defending those who remain invisible and have brainwashed us, no offense. Checkout those links I posted and maybe you can get some luck there, i have no time to go through all the websites and files I used to have on this stuff.

You need "this much" sodium because your body/brain has become used to "that much", when you probably need much less. See for yourself, you will need more and more salt with each meal, often its the salt/sugar-addiction talking and defending itself, is it truly you though? See when we fast for a week at least we can really tell what we crave and what is controlling us, they want us to rely on their food, their supplements, their health system, and that's what keeps us from truly freeing ourselves, because true freedom comes from the inside out, and no one talks about this, our bodies are our foundation, if we can purify our bodies, our minds naturally follow and our soul can return to its true sovereign state.

The issue with adding salts is add "inorganic minerals" which our body cannot assimilate well. Ideally they must first be assimilated by plants then converted to "organic minerals" sodium, calcium, magnesium, potassium ect... for us to properly assimilate them. I

I found a clip where Andrew Norton Webber goes into detail about distilled water and inorganic minerals.

Of course you will experience negatives and side-effects when you cut it out. Salt like coffee, like sugar, like meat... "acts like" a drug to our bodies, we have to wean-off them gradually and consume less and less, and notice how you feel and how your body and skin changes over-time.

Cutting it out completely cold-turkey often leads to withdrawal symptoms and hex/detox reactions. Its like someone jumping from all meat diet to all fruit diet, big no no, transition is important. From denser to lighter, one step at a time, this is why people go crazy when they get off meds.

There is no normal / balanced amount, its conditioning. We never evolving consuming this much salt. Anyways you can experiment yourself if you wish, just do it smart and see if it helps, I am just sharing what helps and what is very clear to me and many others among the health conscious field who i connect with daily and for years. Unfortunately this forum is quite "in the dark" about these things and rejects the path of the purification of the body and doesn't see it fit for consciousness work, when it is the polar opposite and most vital step to a higher consciousness and vibration. Its so easy to take substances and tickle the mind with LSD and post pseudo-enlightenment realizations on the forums 2 seconds after the trip has yet to be even integrated in ones own life, but who will do a 7 - 21 day water fast, and ideally a tech/internet/screentime and dopamine fast side by side? Almost no one, why cause something else controls them, that even among this forum, there is so much distortion. I often get to this same point and this forum seems to never evolve beyond it and I have to leave again. As limited as its masters i guess...

Ultimately my message is these substances we use today signal the body and brian similar to dangerous drugs like cocaine, especially white sugar and white salt... So try less, experiment a bit, switch to celtic or icelandic natural salt, see how you feel and the difference, and try gradually reduce, notice how real food tastes better and taste-buds reorganize and natural flavours start to come back and the need for it becomes less as health returns.

I can only speak from my own experience and I have nowhere to find the things I've read and heard about it years ago. You can also juice celery daily for a lot of natural sodium and thousands of people swear by the Medical Mediums celery cleanse he has some nice books out there.

Yes that makes it clearer for me, that your comments speak for themselves. Good for you, enjoy being a processed product. I ate chips too when i was young, and i was so blinded until i cut all that junk out and cleansed my body. Until you do this there is no solid value in your comments on health and well being. Its just like taking alcohol, giving your power away to something else, most of our thoughts, are they even our own? Why do thoughts dissolve when you fast? Why do they come back when you eat? So what you put in your body is very very important to the quality of thoughts and life you have. Literally shapes our consciousness.

@Ramasta9Giving your power away to what? The universe? Yourself as the universe? You are alcohol. You are potato chips. You are blinded. You dont have to pay attention to your thoughts bro. They dont shape you in any way shape or form unless you are unconcious.

You have holier than thou thoughts. You eat potato chips? You retard savage.

Get real.

You are scared of a thought.

Thoughts dissolve when you fast because you have less energy to think. Your brain stops putting energy there. they come back because your body has more energy to use to power your ego.
