Men my working memory is shit. I remember I could imagine some frequenes in my head back in the day, now its hard to imagine just a few steps if I dont see it directly in front of me. Its like I lost half my eyesight. Wtf happened to my brain..

Will try puzzles under different circumstances, with adhd medication, with body doubling and see if it has any effect.

Black pressures check mate in 1 so white can only get out of the situation with continuely giving checks each turn.

Rook to a8 forces King g7. Rook g8 forces King h6. Check Mate in 1 is prevented. Does the puzzle continue?

Yes the puzzle continues, white to move and win. Final possition must be a clear win for white.

How is this post just me acting out my ego in the usual ways? Is this post just me venting and justifying my selfishness? Are the things you are posting in alignment with principles of higher consciousness and higher stages of ego development? Are you acting in a mature or immature way? ...

Bichop to d1 blocks the Kings way out and pressures check mate in 2 with Rook to g6 the following turn. To prevent this black can only stall with moving the black pawn to g4, but that can be taken out with the Bishop. Black can also attempt to trade Rooks with Rook to g7 but that seals the fate as it blocks the kings way out for the finisher Rook to h8.

Have I missed something?

Rook a8 check -> a7 check -> take black rook w/ check -> black king recaptures on h7 -> push e5 pawn. Black can't catch it before promotion.

I don't see a clean win here. White rook needs to go to A8, then G8, then things get messy but white should win by pushing pawns.

What? Rook can't go to g6, king would just eat it.

King would not recapture on h7. Instead black captures white bishop with his other rook.

This one's more hairy than it looks.

In that case, you'd recapture rook which would lead to white getting a passed pawn.

There's a very clear logical sequence that wins for white.

If you guys want me to give the solution, tell me.

What makes this challenging might be that some of the patterns haven't been seen before.

This puzzles rating on lichess was 2322

A sequence that "is winning" or forced checkmate?

Is winning = overwhelming advantage.

Not necessarily a forced checkmate.

For example, if you win a piece that is considered a winning advantage. As long as there isn't any obvious positional strategies that give your opponent an edge. Sometimes your opponent could sacrifice a piece to get a winning positional advantage, But if your opponent loses a piece for nothing, then that's just a winning advantage for you.

I know how to win but not sure if it's optimal.

Rook to a7 then a8, then take black rook on h7. Black only has 2 options if not in check.

1. Recapture white rook on h7
2. Trade b2 rook for white bishop and after a1 pawn recaptures rook, black king recaptures rook on h7, which liquidates everything but pawns.

White promotes faster with option 1, which looks like this:

KazyCxb.png

But black can take the long way around losing with option 2. After liquidation, it looks like this:

What am I missing?

@Joshe

1) a rook is worth more than a bishop and black does not want to trade his rook for that bishop. If he does, the game is completely over because then White has four pawns and black has two pawns. White can stop black pawns easily and black cannot.

So do you not assume that Black will just give up their important rook for the bishop.

I was just going over possible continuations.

No matter the continuation, black can't win if white plays: a8 -> a7 -> h7.

Is that not the solution?
