You can disagree, but in a mature way that maintains relationship.  It's amazing how this is lost on some people who have been on the path for a long time.  Instead of fighting with people about spirituality, I'm more curious now as to what people are thinking and doing.  I might ask a question.

The ego merely jumped from one type of clothing into another, still hiding from itself :P

I've actually met these types of people, of course its a little exaggerated but it was hilarious to watch.

What would the ego not hiding from itself be?

It depends on how you are asking it. I could say a "distortion" of consciousness, or I could say an activity of mind. It depends.

I just don't know.  I don't know what sense people are using the term it has so many definitions.

Neither do I really, we just are, that's all we truly know, that I AM.

Some people seem to use the term "the ego" in a sense of a veiling of what is True which has a corruptive quality.  Like the cliche of no separate self with the neo-advaita people who see that separate self as not only an illusion but the source of suffering.  So it's a false self.  It's a false i.

The problem is people here and most everywhere cannot even agree on the definition of words, ppl are so exclusive and individualized that they change meanings of words to fit their ideological paradigm, which is an act of the Ego..

So I could give you a definition of Ego, a basic one, someone will come along soon and say that is not it, and we argue about it, this is egoic act for sure..

Ego is false self, a mask of sorts, its what we portray to the other ppl we interact with daily, friends, family, strangers we meet, and is full of the the belief's we have, the auto pilot mechanisms that are running in our heads every day, things of this nature.  The masks makes us smile and reply politely too someone that is saying hi to us on the street when we feel like shit internally, or the opposite.  Its a mask we wear, we just have to learn it is not what We are, and too take it off when its not needed..

You wanna know why I sometimes argue spiritual concepts with ppl here, its not ego, its that You are Me, I am You.. That is why when I am out and about and see so much stupidity and corruption and craziness, it slightly makes me feel sad or pissed off because everyone is Me, I am Them, we are in this together, and we could do some much better, but we don't generally.. and then when the one that are trying to make things better are criticized it boggles my mind and at times makes me just want to go silent and forget others and do my own thing...

Definitely.  I can't believe how many meanings the term "the ego" has.

Yes.  This is what I try to avoid by getting clear about terms.  This is what philosophers try to do at the outset, but sometimes concepts are so nebulous that it's next to impossible to define them completely.  Pointers and examples can sometimes help, but we crave definitions the most.

This is what I tend to call "persona" sort of in the Jungian sense.

One sense in which I tend to use "ego" is to refer to the self with a lower case 's'.  It is the i am not the I AM.  The other sense I tend to use "ego" is in a Jungian sense in contrast to the "shadow"; which are the qualities you prefer to associate with the i am.  In this sense people with rigid egos tend to lack integration, are more rigid and less loving, more selfish, more morally self-righteous, and more judging of others in a way that separates instead of brings people together.

Basically the bigger the ego the less Love generally.  And people with big, rigid egos will often deny that they have an ego (not making this up), so their ego is operating entirely unconsciously which can make them very difficult to relate with, because once their ego gets triggered they lack the self-awareness to rein it in as fast because it just feels right to them to react the way they do.  If it feels right it is right because they are completely unconditioned -- in their own mind (of course).  Predictably, they may deny they have a mind or that there is a separate self or any self there at all too, or that anyone is here at all.  They may even deny facts exist.  If you bring this up to them, it is you who have the ego and who are projecting!

Yes agreed and will put!

My first introduction to Spirituality was Tolle's book New Earth which is an accurate description of the Ego and all its vices and ways of working in Human Life, after reading that book I was able to recognize my ego and egoic ways and a changed happened, one that one cannot retreat from, so that was the start of it..

Yes — A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose by Eckhart Tolle is largely about the ego, though it goes beyond that.

How the ego fits into A New Earth

The central theme of the book is egoic consciousness and how it shapes human suffering—both individually and collectively.

Tolle describes the ego as:

Identification with thoughts, emotions, roles, possessions, and stories

A false sense of self built on separation

The root of fear, conflict, comparison, and dissatisfaction

Much of the book explains:

How the ego forms

How it sustains itself

How it shows up in everyday life (relationships, work, politics, identity, status)

What makes A New Earth different from The Power of Now

While The Power of Now focuses more on presence and awareness in the moment, A New Earth:

Examines the ego in depth

Explores collective ego (nations, religions, groups)

Talks about humanity undergoing a shift in consciousness

Frames ego-transcendence as essential for creating a “new earth”

Core message in simple terms

The ego is not “bad,” but unconscious

Suffering comes from over-identifying with the ego

Awareness of the ego weakens it

A more peaceful world emerges as individuals disidentify from ego

One-sentence summary

👉 Yes—A New Earth is fundamentally about recognizing, understanding, and transcending the ego as a step toward personal awakening and collective transformation.

Am i the only one who actually found this video funny or is this forums just full of depressed people? I was aiming to lighten things up a bit :P

We don't have to over-complicate everything, just be, enjoy your life and do your best, or be your best, hows that?

I do, I see this forum, i feel for it, i create a new account, just trying to lighten things up, there are many good souls here, just bit in the dark. That's why i create topics like Nature and fun things to post and share, sometimes comedy or nature or similar things can make all the difference. its not always about going into deep discussions about what is, but simply enjoying what is presented.

@Davino You may enjoy this ^^
